External Description:

  • Position Summary 

    The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining manufacturing processes for HVAC products within a Carrier production facility. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production while driving continuous improvement in cost, throughput, and product quality. The engineer works cross-functionally with operations, quality, maintenance, and product engineering teams to support production goals and new product introductions. 

    Key Responsibilities 

    Process Development & Optimization 

    • Design, develop, and implement manufacturing processes for HVAC units (e.g., air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces). 

    • Optimize assembly lines, fabrication processes, and material flow to improve efficiency and reduce waste. 

    • Develop standard work, process documentation, and work instructions. 

    • Conduct time studies, line balancing, and capacity analysis. 

    Continuous Improvement 

    • Lead Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives (Kaizen events, 5S, waste reduction, etc.). 

    • Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC metrics). 

    • Analyze production data and implement corrective actions for process inefficiencies. 

    Production Support 

    • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions on the production floor. 

    • Provide daily engineering support to production supervisors and operators. 

    • Collaborate with maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and uptime. 

    New Product Introduction (NPI) 

    • Support the launch of new HVAC products into production. 

    • Develop tooling, fixtures, and equipment requirements. 

    • Validate manufacturing processes through trials, pilot builds, and capability studies. 

    Quality & Compliance 

    • Ensure processes meet quality standards and regulatory requirements. 

    • Support root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA). 

    • Work closely with quality teams to reduce defects and improve yields. 

    Equipment & Tooling 

    • Specify, design, and procure manufacturing equipment and tooling. 

    • Oversee installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment. 

    • Improve automation where applicable. 

    Safety & Ergonomics 

    • Ensure compliance with safety standards and promote a strong safety culture. 

    • Evaluate ergonomics and implement improvements to reduce risk of injury. 

    Required Qualifications 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or engineering field. 

    • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment  

    • 2+ years of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools. 

    • 2+ years of Experience with manufacturing processes such as assembly, brazing, sheet metal, and testing. 

    Preferred Qualifications 

    • Proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Office tools. 

    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. 

    • Experience in HVAC manufacturing or similar products. 

    • Six Sigma Green Belt or higher certification. 

    • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP). 

    • Experience with automation and robotics. 

    • Knowledge of regulatory standards (UL, ISO, OSHA).
