Role Purpose

The Electrical Engineering Intern will support the design, validation, and sustainment of embedded electronic controls used in Commercial HVAC and Building Automation applications. Working closely with experienced engineers, the intern will gain hands-on experience in product development, laboratory testing, troubleshooting, sustaining engineering, and cost reduction initiatives while contributing to real-world commercial HVAC control projects. This position provides exposure to embedded controls, sensors, connectivity technologies, manufacturing support, and product lifecycle management.


Role Responsibilities

  • Support electrical engineers in the design, development, and validation of commercial HVAC control products.
  • Assist with laboratory testing, troubleshooting, and product validation activities.
  • Build, assemble, and modify prototype hardware, test fixtures, and evaluation platforms.
  • Conduct proof-of-concept experiments and document engineering test results.
  • Assist in creating engineering documentation including test reports, Bills of Material (BOMs), specifications, drawings, and design records.
  • Support sustaining engineering activities for released products, including investigation of quality, manufacturing, supplier, and field issues.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving activities for product and process improvements.
  • Assist with cost reduction and value engineering projects through component evaluations, alternate part qualification, and design optimization activities.
  • Support component obsolescence management by researching and validating replacement components.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Supplier teams to implement product improvements.
  • Assist with Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), documentation updates, and product release activities.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze engineering data to support technical and business decisions.
  • Learn and apply engineering best practices related to safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, and product development processes.
  • Present project findings, results, and recommendations to engineering teams.

 

Basic Qualifications 

  • Must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher 
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Coursework in circuit analysis, electronics, embedded systems, controls, or power systems.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and power supplies.
  • Experience with schematic capture, PCB design tools, or CAD software.
  • Basic programming experience in C, C++, Python, or similar languages.
  • Knowledge of microcontrollers, sensors, communication interfaces, or control systems.
  • Interest in HVAC systems, building automation, connected products, or embedded electronics.
