This is the ideal role for those that are building their mechanical background with Chillers on land and cruise ships.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Service and maintain chilled water plants on cruise ships and commercial buildings
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs, repair leaks, overhaul equipment, and regular operating maintenance of machines
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical circuits
  • Inspect and observe pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of the unit and make necessary adjustments.
  • Adjust and maintain internal electrical and electronic control systems; Brush condenser tubes, checks motors, and belt tensions.
  • Understand the proper and safe use of chain blocks, rigging straps, and trolleys
  • Able to rig and properly set up gantry for safely lifting equipment, overhauling pumps, chillers, etc.
  • Recognize and identify potential risks and hazards associated with performing all work-related duties safely
  • Collaborate with management personnel to maintain safe working environments
  • Participate in a comprehensive OSHA-approved safety course (preferably OSHA 10- or 30-hour course) and adhere to company and regulatory compliance programs
  • Maintain maintenance records as required by City, State, and EPA regulations

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to travel 30% of the year as customer needs (Planned or unplanned)
  • Ability to obtain a Driver license and passport
  • Knowledge of water and air chillers, Commercial HVAC units, and rigging
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Successfully demonstrated independent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills: able to communicate with co-workers and drivers with demonstrated teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

Education and Experience:

Highschool Diploma or GED preferred

5-10 years’ experience as a journeymen

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to wear proper PPE, including but not limited to; helmets, safety goggles, fall protection harness, and safety boots to safely perform job duties
  • Must be able to twist the trunk of your body 90 degrees in each direction
  • Must be able to squat and touch the floor with both hands
  • Must be able to reach your hands over your head
  • Must be able to stand, squat, crawl, and/or sit for extended periods of time
  • This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders. It requires employees to regularly lift and or move up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to safely use a ladder with a 350 lb. total weight limit, while carrying equipment of 50 lbs. or less
  • Must be able to maneuver confined access areas
  • Must be able to work on cruise ships for extended periods of time
  • This role may be exposed to variable weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, risk of electrical shock, noisy operating equipment and other variable environmental conditions based on location
