Job Description

You will be a key member of Carrier’s Central Research and Development (CRD) organization, whose mission is to provide innovative technology solutions across the company’s global product portfolio. As an Engineer in the Heat Transfer Group, you will apply state-of-art design and simulation tools to optimize heat exchanger performance in HVAC&R systems. You will utilize a variety of heat transfer test facilities to characterize heat exchanger performance and generate fundamental data for the improvement of modeling and design tools. You will work closely with global product development teams and cross-functional partners to insert new heat transfer technologies into Carrier products. You will leverage expertise in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics, including both single-phase and two-phase flows. You will grow professionally to become a key contributor to strategic heat transfer technology initiatives.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to several heat transfer-focused projects and assist in key heat exchanger technology initiatives.
  • Support benchmarking, development, validation, and implementation of advanced heat exchanger technologies.
  • Evaluate heat exchanger designs and heat transfer surface concepts using analytical and experimental methods.
  • Utilize experimental test facilities; develop test methodologies; plan and supervise experiments; ensure quality data acquisition; and perform relevant data reduction.
  • Assist in developing state-of-art design and simulation tools; plan and conduct experiments for calibration and validation of modeling tools.
  • Provide support to product engineering teams to ensure proper application of new heat transfer technologies throughout the product development cycle.
  • Generate written technical reports and standard work instructions.
  • Conduct presentations for engineering and business personnel.
  • Communicate effectively using written, verbal, and presentation skills with all stakeholders.
  • Manage critical tasks and complete assignments promptly using strong organizational skills.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Overcome obstacles and apply creative solutions to achieve project objectives.

Qualifications: 

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
  • Must have 1 year or more experience in the fundamentals of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and heat exchanger design, which may include College, Internship, and/or work experience.
  • Must have 1 year or more knowledge of two-phase flow phenomena (liquid-gas), heat transfer, and hydraulic resistance concepts, which may include College, Internship, and/or work experience.
  • Must have 1 year or more college, Internship, and/or work experience in mechanical and thermal design using numerical and analytical models, which may include CFD/FEA familiarity
  • Must have 1 year or more knowledge, which may include College, Internship, and/or work experience, of modern experimental methods, instrumentation, and measurement systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering, with an emphasis on thermal sciences
  • Familiarity with HVAC&R equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge of DoE concepts (College Classes, Internship, or work experience) related to modern experimental methods, instrumentation, and measurement systems is desired
  • Experience in EES and MatLab computer programming languages is a plus.
  • Industrial experience and knowledge of manufacturing methods used in HVAC&R field
