About this role:
Carrier is looking for a highly motivated and results driven Systems Test Engineer to work with the Commercial Controls Engineering team to support projects focusing on control software design and development for embedded HVAC systems.
The Systems Test Engineering position is a critical position, and the selected individual will play a key role in performing diagnostic tests on control systems and its applications, measuring its performance and efficiency, ensuring test coverage, and recommending technical solutions as needed.
This role is based out of Charlotte, NC. He or she will actively develop standard work and methodologies to ensure that test engineering practices are followed during product qualification. Test engineers work closely with product development engineers, system engineers, product managers, quality representatives and field representatives to analyze product requirements, and develop tests plans and strategies, estimate effort and ensure smooth execution of test plans.
Specifying system test cases is a critical activity in large and complex systems development. Systems test engineers need to elicit, analyze, and evolve the test cases, as these assess the system's performance, robustness, endurance, and appeal.
Key Responsibilities:
- Test Design
- Develop system and sub-system test cases cross-functionally and manage the life cycles of product qualification
- Detailed understanding of how to properly document test cases and create effective and focused testing plans
- Develop tests as required to quantify the performance of critical components and the system as a whole
- Manage and resolve test strategy conflicts among stakeholders
- Lead review and approval of test plans and test case documentation
- Develop system tests which satisfy requirements and architectural constraints
- Manage requirements test coverage
- Test Execution and Management
- Document and monitor testing outcomes and establish steps to remedy problems
- Establish a framework for necessary test contributions from various departments and facilitate their collaboration
- Assist other department engineers in creating practical demonstrations of proposed solutions and demonstrating them to other members of the team
- Work closely with departments within the company to ensure hardware is available for projects and working properly
- Track defects and review implementation of bug fixes to ensure that they meet overall intent of the system requirement
- Plan and execute integration of components comprising the system to ensure system performance meets requirements
- Continuous Improvement
- Analyze current technologies used within the company and develop steps and processes to improve testing procedures
- Define clear goals for all aspects of a product test and develop steps for their proper execution
- Create processes and standard work to ensure application of systems engineering techniques and methodologies to product qualification
- Actively participate in process improvement activities to improve the quality of the products delivered by the organization
Required Qualifications: (needs to be objective not subjective)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Science
- 10+ years of systems engineering and advanced knowledge of testing methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree preferred
- Experience in developing test plans and test cases for complex electro-mechanical systems
- Experience decomposing complex systems into components and mapping requirements to test cases for testing and validation
- Experience integrating and verifying & validating performance of complex systems
- Experience creating guidelines for implementation of test engineering practices
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a lean and fast paced environment
- Ability to work with geographically dispersed teams and a diverse cultural environment
- Ability to professionally engage with cross-functional and cross-regional teams to understand and translate product requirements into control system requirements
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts across technical and non-technical organizations
- Experience in test management tools such as IBM-Jazz RQM, Azure DevOps Test Plans, Rally etc
- Knowledge of HVAC systems
