Reporting to the Site Operations Manager, the EH&S Manager is responsible for leadership support to oversee Carrier’s Environmental, Health and Safety programs. This individual will manage/lead the EH&S function, providing strategic direction, leadership, and technical support to advance EH&S programs with a primary focus on compliance with all local, state, federal, and Carrier EH&S related requirements.

This position requires a highly energetic, self-driven, and dedicated EH&S professional.  Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to excel in a matrix environment, while working in a fast paced team based work environment is critical. The ideal candidate will also possess strong leadership and analytical skills.  In addition, an understanding and knowledge of legal EH&S requirements including OSHA/EPA requirements is required.

The Physical scope of this position will include the Franklin, KY factory and offices.  Minimal travel (up to 10%) may be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership and builds partnership at site across all levels of the organization to foster EH&S culture improvement.
  • Partners with site leadership and supervision to ensure EH&S regulatory compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations.
  • Provides guidance to all employees to ensure adherence to company EH&S Procedures and Standard Practices.
  • Works on cross-functional projects that interface with other groups, external to and within the core EH&S team.
  • Ensures timely risk assessments and adequate controls for EH&S processes.
  • Assists in the identification of Health & Safety hazards and the development of controls to mitigate risks including ergonomic improvements.
  • Conduct EH&S audits; audit compliance to Carrier/Carrier policies and procedures and regulatory requirements; maintain and improve environmental regulatory compliance initiatives; evaluate effectiveness of EH&S programs
  • Manage worker’s compensation program including claims management, and return-to-work coordination.
  • Works closely with site’s facility management services to ensure EH&S compliance.
  • Provides timely information and guidance to the site leadership team, and site EH&S council, including EH&S performance trends and root cause corrective actions for injuries and near misses.
  • Drives action plans to meet and exceed aggressive EH&S goals.  
  • Leads and instructs EH&S training courses, and ensure all required training is completed.
  • Develops and implements strategic action plans to achieve the company goal of having a hazard free workplace.
  • Determination and implementation of environmental sustainability initiatives to minimize water use, greenhouse gas generation, hazardous waste generation and increase recycling rate.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 6+ years of experience leading EH&S program in a manufacturing environment including experience in OSHA, EPA Regulations and submitting environmental permits and forms
  • 2+ years people management experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety and Health
  • Strong leadership, organization and project management skills
  • In depth knowledge of national and local EHS legislation
  • Personality, presence, and confidence to lead meetings, and coach peers & leaders
  • Experience of communication with external parties, including local government agency
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently prioritizing work to achieve deliverables
  • Demonstrated understanding of standard EH&S reporting methods and metrics
  • Demonstrated success in leading and implementing site and/or corporate EH&S programs and systems.
  • Ability to influence and drive EH&S initiatives while working in a diverse, multicultural environment
  • Demonstrated strength in EH&S risk assessment, program evaluation and auditing
  • Past experience in manufacturing/warehouse or research and development setting
  • Strong knowledge, understanding and compliance with Environment, Health and Safety regulations, standard concepts, practices and procedures required.
  • Proficient in using MS Office, Outlook, Windows Operating System Internet explorer and web applications.
  • Experience with Enablon EMS (Desirable, but not required)
