About This Role
As an Associate Controls Engineer you will be responsible for Design, documentation, and/or programming of building automation systems (BASs) in compliance with project plans and specifications. Proactive communication with project team both internal and external including requests for information (RFIs) and technical risks and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design of complete building automation systems including the specification and sizing of controllers, electromechanical devices, sensors, networks, and computer hardware.
- Documentation of the BAS design (i.e. submittals) and revision control of the resultant documents.
- Site-specific configuration of the WebCTRL system (using SiteBuilder).
- Programming of control algorithms.
- Development of graphical and text-based interfaces for building automation systems (using Eikon and ViewBuilder).
- Testing of programming and interfaces prior to deployment.
- Support of functional testing (commissioning) for building systems.
- Final documentation of the building automation system that incorporates all changes made since issuance of the submittal.
- Adherence to project requirements and company and customer standards in all aspects of design, programming, and implementation.
- Technical support during the selling process to ensure that sales representatives accurately address customer requirements and propose the best possible solutions.
- Identification and communication of project opportunities and risks related to cost, time, and technical considerations.
- Timely creation of requests for information (RFIs).
- Clear communication and proactive expectation setting with manager and project teams both internal and external.
- Adherence to safety standards. High regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
- Adherence to ethics standards. Exemplifies the Carrier code of ethics.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Associates degree or technical training in engineering
- Capable of climbing ladders or using other lift equipment over 8 feet above grade, and capable of lifting items up to 50lbs.
- Travel 20% of average workweek, including air travel, overnight hotel stays, and unexpected travel when required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering or construction discipline and some HVAC experience in the HVAC controls industry.
- Understanding of IP networks.
- Experience with Microsoft Visio (other CAD software acceptable).
- Competency with Microsoft software including Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Aptitude for systems-level thinking.
- Ability to understand written sequences of operations.
- Ability to understand diagrammatic depictions of systems.
- Competent verbal and written communicator. Aptitude for translating technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Able to balance multiple concurrent priorities.
- Aptitude for problem solving.
- Time management skills including the ability to accurately estimate time required to complete tasks and deliver on the committed timeline.
- Team player with a positive attitude.
- Possess and maintain valid and current form of government issued identification.
- Ability to report to assigned work location reliably.
