About This Program:
Immerse yourself in Carrier’s Early Career Tradesman Program for entry-level commercial HVAC technicians. Participants hired into this 2-year development program will be provided training and foundational knowledge to perform general service maintenance for Carrier Commercial Service products and customers. Program participants will benefit from a comprehensive 4-week onboarding program which will focus on new employee onboarding and light commercial and RTU service fundamentals. The program in its entirety will focus on light commercial service fundamentals in year 1 and applied commercial service in year 2. The program will also explore career path options for Carrier technicians in addition to launching of a formal mentorship program for all participants.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED
- Must possess and maintain a valid and current Driver’s License
- Capable of climbing ladders or using other lift equipment more than 8 feet above grade
- Capable of lifting items up to 50lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates Degree, or Technical Degree
- HVAC industry experience
Principal Responsibilities:
Year 1
- Complete training requirements with focus on light commercial products and service
- Graduate from Carrier’s 4-week Early Career Tradesman onboarding program
- Relocate (as needed) to local field office for full-time employment
- Formally join the local union within 6 months of hire date
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on light commercial products and systems
- Actively participate in mentorship program with local mentor/coach
- Complete Year 1 technical assessment with local Service Manager
- Obtain OSHA 30 certification
Year 2
- Complete training requirements with focus on complex applied products and service
- Participate in career path roadmap discussions and development
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on applied commercial products and systems
- Complete Year 2 technical assessment with local Service Manager
- Determine further career path interest to Carrier Operations & HR leadership
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must be able to work alone and communicate effectively at all levels
- Must have a good understanding of systems software to read, test, and make changes to logic
- Able to download and troubleshoot basic HVAC system logic and associated software
- Understand basic troubleshooting methods and practices in HVAC industry
- Able to read and understand Architectural, Mechanical, and Electrical blueprints
- Basic experience with Microsoft software products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Possess computer and networking skills to properly maintain their laptops and mobile devices
- Clear understanding of basic operation and control of mechanical equipment and sequences
- Knowledge and application of preferred customer service expectation standards
