The Sustaining Software Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, root cause identification, problem resolution, and maintenance of Windows-based software solutions that shape the future of the security industry. This includes working with the latest technologies and on exciting applications like biometrics, smart cards, access control, ID management, and digital video.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the maintenance of an existing software product.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with local and international teams.
- Analyze and resolve complex software issues from field deployments.
- Design, prototype, and implement new solutions.
- Utilize the latest C++ / C# techniques in code development.
- Utilize the latest tools & techniques in software debugging and troubleshooting.
- Work closely with members of Technical Support, Quality Assurance, Product Management, and end users as needed.
- Participate in peer reviews to both share and receive feedback.
Required Qualifications
- Pursuing Bachelor’s degree in a computer related field
- 3.0 or higher GPA
- Applicant must be US Citizen or Permanent Resident
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference is being given to the candidate from Rochester Institute of Technology. This co-op is a partnership between Rochester Institute of Technology and their career center.
- Relocation is not provided for RIT students
- Experience with C or C++, and SQL.
- Experience with Microsoft development tools, including Visual Studio.
- Knowledge of version control and defect management tools.
- Experience across the full life cycle of server applications.
- Experience interfacing hardware with software.
- REST API development.
- Experience with MFC, COM, XML, and MS SQL Server.
- Experience with multi-threaded applications.
- Experience with relational databases.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Enthusiasm for working in a collaborative team environment, including a willingness to seek and offer help.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
