About this role
Carrier Corporation’s Air Management Systems team in Syracuse, NY, is seeking a qualified fan and air management system design engineer to support their development of advanced, high-efficiency fan technologies for HVAC applications. This position involves the full range of design and development engineering for high-performance, low-noise fans using analytical models, computational fluid dynamics, and lab testing. The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of fan aerodynamics and turbomachinery design fundamentals and practical skills with fan hardware design, testing, and manufacturing. The position also includes HVAC&R systems and applications air management design and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Fan and AMS development using analytical and experimental methods.
- CFD modeling for fan and AMS flow performance and noise.
- Experimental development, testing, data analysis and reporting.
- Technical planning and reviews.
- Work with Carrier teams and suppliers to implement custom fan & AMS designs.
- 5% domestic and international travel.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace engineering
- 3+ years’ experience in fluid dynamics, aerodynamics and/or turbomachinery, including the design and analysis of fluid dynamic systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CFD analysis of rotating machines and other flow-path systems
- Emphasis on low-speed, low-pressure ratio fans and blowers
- Familiarity with HVAC&R equipment and systems
- Familiarity with experimental methods, instrumentation, and data analysis for fluid dynamic measurements in a lab environment
- Experience with aeroacoustics modeling, analysis, and testing
- Knowledge of structural modeling and analysis using FEA
- Experience with 3D modeling (CAD)
- Experience with GD&T, manufacturing, process development, and tooling
- Mechanical design, structures, prototyping, and fabrication, including additive manufacturing
