About this role

Carrier is a leading provider of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. The Carrier Central Research and Design Compression team is recruiting for a design/development engineer to work on reciprocating compressor product and technology development programs. The position will be based in Syracuse, NY.

This position will help drive projects to completion in the development of new HVAC and Refrigeration Reciprocating compressors by applying engineering experience and problem solving skills in a cross functional team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in product development activities including cost estimates, implementation of standard specifications, drawing board layout, and development of performance or maintenance requirements
  • Execute tests for systems, sub-systems, and components. Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives
  • Follow all appropriate design, safety, and qualification standards in development programs.
  • Test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess operating condition effects
  • Produce parts, designs, or sketches for machines, components, systems or work orders / purchase requests

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering is preferred
  • Experience in the area of compressor or machine repair and/or design is preferred
  • Candidates are desired which have acquired basic competence in specialized skill sets including or similar to: the use of physics based performance models, 3D modeling of components, and FEA
  • Basic capabilities in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and mechanics of materials is required
  • Basic understanding of GD&T is preferred
  • Must be an innovative person with strong verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment, and high energy
  • Must thrive in a work environment with globally distributed cross functional teams and be willing to drive projects to closure by contributing wherever work needs to be completed
