ABOUT THE ROLE
The Power Plant Shift Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the onsite peaker power plant supporting the local power grid in Colton, California. In twelve hour shifts, the Power Plant Shift Operator monitors one LM6000 gas turbine generator and supporting equipment to provide continuous operations as needed. The Power Plant Shift Operator reports to NORESCO’s Operations & Maintenance Manager. Equipment and site specific training will be provided.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate one gas turbine electrical generator and all supporting equipment including natural gas compressors, air compressors, water treatment systems, electrical switchgear, motor control centers, pumps, motors, and control systems.
- Respond to the site during off shift hours as necessary to restore from emergent equipment failures or power plant trips.
- Perform chemistry on all water and steam systems and make necessary chemical dosage adjustments.
- Perform plant inspections, fill out plant operations log sheets, document and communicate discovered issues.
- During equipment casualties, operate systems and equipment to place the plant in safe condition and minimize cascading damage
- Be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Proactively identify and address leading indicators of potential equipment failures.
- Perform planned/preventative equipment maintenance.
- Perform emergent/corrective equipment maintenance.
- Maintain NORESCO’s on site tool inventory and spare parts inventory.
- Interface with customers and subcontractors as assigned.
- Maintain good customer relations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED
- 1+ years experience with operations and/or maintenance of power plant equipment
- 1+ year experience with safety programs (ie: LOTO, HAZMAT, PPE, …)
- Carry up to 50 pounds up and down multi levels of stairs; able to climb 10ft ladders; comfortable working on elevated platforms; comfortable working around rotating machinery, vibrating equipment, pressurized systems, and high voltage systems.
- Current state issued driver’s license
- Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays (as rotating shift schedule dictates)
- Ability and willingness to cover shifts for other operators, as needed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent mechanical/electrical aptitude (ability to troubleshoot, restore, and maintain a wide variety of equipment; ability to read and interpret technical drawings).
- Practical knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical equipment, and associated control systems
- Practical knowledge of power and steam generation.
- Experience with gas turbine generators
- Experience with operating and/or maintaining power generation equipment and facilities.
- Experience with water chemistry control
- Forklift/Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) license and experience
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Familiarity with operational HMI and data historian programs (trends, data analysis, retrieval) such as PI and/or Wonderware
- Experience with procurement (purchase orders, …)
- Experience coordinating with subcontractors
- Candidate should live within 1 hour of the job site (or be willing to move there).
- OSHA 10 certification (or ability to earn certification after hiring).
- Ability to follow directions and perform work under the direction of the operations and maintenance supervisor.
