About this role
This position is for a Lead Field Controls Engineer in Aftermarket and Service who is under minimal supervision. Installs, tests, services and repairs complex equipment to conform with company operating specifications and customer requirements. Leads lower level staff to maintain and analyze equipment logs to identify equipment repair needs and required repair methods. Relies on moderate to extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Design of complete building automation systems including the specification and sizing of controllers, electromechanical devices, sensors, networks, and computer hardware.
- Creation, where necessary, of sequences of operation for the control of all building systems. Documentation of the BAS design (i.e. submittals) and revision control of the resultant documents.
- Site-specific configuration of the WebCTRL system (Preferred).
- Programming of control algorithms including those that include third-party integration.
- Development of graphical and text-based interfaces for building automation systems.
- Testing of programming and interfaces prior to deployment.
- Functional testing (commissioning) of complex building systems such as chiller plants and large integrations.
- Setup and execution of factory witness tests for projects which require them.
- Final documentation of the building automation system that incorporates all changes made since issuance of the submittal.
- Adherence to project requirements and company and customer standards in all aspects of design, programming, and implementation.
- Technical support during the selling process to ensure that sales representatives accurately address customer requirements and propose the best possible solutions.
- Mentorship and development of other Application Engineers.
- Identification and communication of project opportunities and risks related to cost, time, and technical considerations.
- Timely creation of requests for information that are clear, concise, and well written.
- Clear communication and proactive expectation setting with manager and project stakeholders.
- Maintenance and advisement of customer and company design and programming standards including parts and practices.
- Adherence to safety standards. High degree of regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
- Adherence to ethics standards. Exemplifies the Carrier code of ethics.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma with
- 4+ years of experience in the HVAC controls industry with experience in electrical and mechanical building systems.
- 3+ Years interpreting plans (including architectural, mechanical, and electrical blueprints), specifications, and contract documents to deliver compliant but optimized designs.
- 3+ years’ managing team members and lead project teams.
- 3+ years’ experience Proficient with BAS software, associated engineering tools and Microsoft Visio (other CAD software acceptable)
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or Technical School certification in the HVAC industry
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Electronics, or IT.
- Experience with Microsoft office, including Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience in writing, and recommending modifications to sequences of operation for building systems.
- Prefer experience in condensing complex technical information into a comprehensive and clear set of design documents in a way that is easily understood and followed by project stakeholders.
- Field experience and a complete understanding of the installation and operation of Automated Logic Controls and knowledge and understanding of third-party control systems and integrations.
- Experience with Automated Logic and Phoenix software, including WebCtrl, SiteBuilder, ViewBuilder, LogicBuilder, InterOp 3.02, Alert, Draw, EDB, Eikon, Supervision, and Accel Works.
- Extensive knowledge of third-party communication protocols used in building automation (e.g. BACnet, Modbus, LON, N2, etc.). Able to design and troubleshoot integrations with the same.
- Ability to travel in excess of 50% of the typical workweek, including air travel, overnight hotel stays, and unexpected travel as well as participate in rotating on-call schedule.
- Possess and maintain a valid and current Driver’s License and be insurable by the company’s insurance carrier.
- Well-organized and able to balance multiple concurrent priorities by communicating and negotiating due dates and deliverables.
- Excellent time management skills, including the ability to accurately estimate the time required to complete tasks and deliver on the committed timeline.
