About This Role

As a Building Automation Systems (BAS) Engineer, you will play a key role in designing intelligent systems that enhance energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and operational performance in facilities such as schools, hospitals, government buildings, and commercial spaces.
In this role, you will be responsible for the design and documentation of building automation systems that support intelligent, energy-efficient building operations. This includes developing equipment-level wiring schematics, point layouts, control sequences, hardware selection, network architecture, and system integration strategies. You will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure that all designs meet project specifications, customer expectations, and industry standards.
This position reports directly to the Hardware Engineering Supervisor and offers a clear path for professional growth, including opportunities to mentor junior engineers and advance into senior technical or leadership roles.
Key Responsibilities
Design complete BAS solutions, including controllers, sensors, relays, actuators, and network infrastructure.
Develop submittal packages that include wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, and point schedules to support programming, graphics, installation, and commissioning.
Interpret mechanical, electrical, and architectural construction documents to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Select appropriate hardware and components based on system specifications and performance criteria.
Create and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify technical or scope-related issues.
Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of engineering documentation.
Adhere to company, customer, and safety standards throughout the design and implementation process.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
For qualified candidates, provide mentorship to junior engineers and support technical development across the team.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in HVAC or BAS controls.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, building automation, or a related engineering field.
Five (5) or more years of experience in the building automation industry.
Proficiency in interpreting architectural, mechanical, and electrical blueprints and specifications.
Familiarity with building automation communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, and LON.
Experience with engineering tools and platforms including Microsoft Visio, EDS, Eikon, SiteBuilder, and ViewBuilder.
Strong understanding of control theory, including PID loops and I/O configurations.
Effective communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Working Arrangement: Hybrid - This position requires regular on-site duties at project or branch locations, combined with the ability to work from home several days per week. On-site presence is determined by project needs, team collaboration, and customer requirements.
