As a new, public stand-alone company and reporting segment in Fire & Security, this leadership role will play a critical role in optimizing the future portfolio, developing a comprehensive business strategy to drive profitable growth, and leading high impact initiatives across multiple business units globally within F&S. The Director will work closely with the VP of Strategy & Marketing, and business unit leaders to set and execute these initiatives. He/she will also maintain a current view of the industry and economic landscape, including but not limited to technology and regulatory trends, leading market indicators, competitive and customer trends, identify product portfolio gaps, and develop strategies for closing those gaps. In addition, he/she will lead initiatives focused on driving commercial excellence – for example, salesforce effectiveness and customer loyalty. He/ she will work closely with Carrier BD to complement organic growth strategy divestitures and M&A.

Upstream or strategic marketing will also be part of the scope, in terms of identifying and understanding customer needs, segmentation, targeting, positioning, value proposition vs. competition and for our customers based on needs-based quantitative and qualitative analyses. This insight will then drive product portfolio management and feed into overall strategic planning for F&S. This leader will work closely with Downstream Marketing, Communication & PR, BD, Pricing and Product Management teams at HQ and within the BUs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assessing portfolio options (i.e., “what is the portfolio of the future?”) for F&S in order to position the segment and company to deliver superior shareholder returns
- Leading growth and profit improvement initiatives that cut across, and in close collaboration with, multiple Business Units (“BUs”) and helping to implement them as necessary;
- Leading commercial excellence initiatives with transformational potential;
- Establishing and owning Carrier’s strategy cadence, in partnership with Finance, for F&S around the year including BU strategic plans, board discussions, and investor presentations;
- Working with senior leadership to define and implement mid-to-long term strategic objectives and growth opportunities;
- Driving deeper understanding of global markets, leading competitive analyses, identifying issues and trends;
- Partnering with the Business Development organization and BUs in M&A initiatives;
- Attracting, developing, and retaining top talent within the function.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and an MBA or advanced degree are required.
- 10+ years of experience in strategy development and implementation, either in a strategy consulting or corporate strategy role, and ideally both.
- 7+ year of individual experience with strategic consulting experience with a top tier firm (e.g., McKinsey, Bain, BCG)
- 5+ years of experience with large, blue chip industrial companies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with commercial and marketing within businesses preferred
- Ability to think strategically with practical business judgment and a results-oriented mindset
- Demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor with superior problem-solving skills
- Proven experience in analyzing, developing, and presenting solutions to complex, strategic issues
- Highly collaborative with the capacity to be an effective member of dynamic, forward-thinking senior leadership team
- Exemplary leadership skills, including the ability to build bridges, form consensus, and influence decision makers across organizational boundaries
- Excellent presentation, written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills whether speaking to mid-level employees or senior leadership.
