About this role
ALC is seeking a Building Automation Project Engineer to lead the technical execution of complex control system installations. This role is built for a controls expert who excels in project planning, serves as a subject matter expert, and ensures mission-critical facility controls are commissioned to the highest standards of reliability and safety. You will be responsible for the full technical lifecycle of building automation projects, working closely with Project Managers, Field Installation Teams, and other engineers to deliver innovative, tailored solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Execution & Management: Self-manage, schedule, and budget assigned project work
- System Commissioning: Define, oversee, and commission the implementation of technically complex Building Automation Systems (BAS), focusing on large networks, third-party integrations, and complex control systems
- Technical Authority: Serve as the subject matter expert for system definition and advanced troubleshooting, both remotely and on job sites
- Design Review: Provide detailed design and operation information to the field team and review submitted materials (DDC modules, field sensing, and control devices) to ensure compliance with specifications and standards
- Software Development: Create software and graphics solutions for specific project requirements
- Team Support: Provide direct troubleshooting and technical support to the operations install team
- Mentorship & Training: Support operations management in the training and mentoring of team members on proper documentation, field procedures, and HVAC/Smart Building automation
- Integration Liaison: Act as the direct liaison between the field installation team and the engineering team, specifically focused on third-party integrations
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma, Associate’s degree, or Technical School in the HVAC industry with a minimum of 6 years’ experience in the HVAC controls
- Possess and maintain valid and current Driver’s License and be insurable by the company’s insurance carrier
- Ability to travel more than 25% of typical workweek, including air travel, overnight hotel stays, and unexpected travel as well as participate in rotating on call schedule
- Capable of climbing ladders or using other lift equipment more than 8 feet above grade, and capable of lifting items up to 50lbs
Preferred Qualifications
- BAS Software: Understanding of systems software to read, test, and make changes to logic, including the ability to create, download, and troubleshoot basic HVAC system logic using WebCTRL and associated software
- Networking: Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networks, wireless technology, layout, and troubleshooting. Experience in the commissioning of Ethernet and ARC Net communications
- Controls Systems: Field experience with the installation and operation of Automated Logic Controls (ALC) and the ability to understand/navigate third-party control systems and integrations
- Communication: English communication skills, the ability to work effectively in a team environment, and to translate technical information for a non-technical audience
- Documentation: Ability to read and understand Architectural, Mechanical, and Electrical blueprints
- Technical Applications: Proficiency with Microsoft software products (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- HVAC Knowledge: Background in mechanical and HVAC system operation and design and a good working knowledge of ALC hardware and software
