Job Description Summary
This position manages a team of intermediate or experienced professionals in Test and Validation, leads project efforts, integration, and testing, applies specialist knowledge, and coordinates preparation of business plans. In addition, this role requires a manager to drive process improvements through Carrier Excellence visual methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify skill sets required for a specific task.
- Manager personnel from compensation, training, promotions, and performance assessment.
- Maintain lab department budget with respect to material, people, and supplies.
- Highlight capital investments for lab infrastructure/supplies for current and future technology needs.
- Prioritize lab project work among the Transport Business units and associated Research and Development laboratories.
- Manage a large team of Transport Refrigeration lab technicians.
- Develop and implement KPIs to monitor lab performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Foster a collaborative environment which promotes learning, development, and engagement.
- Develops, implements, or promotes policies, standards, or procedures for engineering or technical work to enhance the organization's performance.
Role Purpose
- Lead the development, implementation and general management of the Carrier Transicold lab and associated facilities in Syracuse, NY.
- This role will ensure best practice lab procedures & standards are developed/followed.
- The selected candidate will also Ensure training and mentoring of personnel is aligned with latest technologies and business needs.
- This role reports to the Director of Mechanical Sub-Systems Engineering.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
- 10+ years of experience having worked in mechanical or electrical engineering.
- 3+ years of experience managing laboratory or manufacturing environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
· 11-15+ years of experience working in mechanical or electrical engineering.
· Experience in new product and technology development experience.
· Strong organizational skills.
· Strong written and communication skills.
· Experience implementing visually managed process controls.
· Experience working with high voltage systems which include batteries.
· Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing personnel.
· Engagement in working lab environment.
· HVAC & R industry experience.
· Diesel Engine power generation experience.
· High voltage lithium-ion battery experience.
· Proven experience managing high-voltage or heavy-industrial laboratory environments, specifically those involving diesel engines and large-scale mechanical systems.
· Technical proficiency in overseeing large vapor compression systems, industrial refrigerants, and brine-based cooling loops.
· Deep understanding of integrated, high-power electrical and mechanical systems.
