About This Role

The Associate Project Engineer is an important entry level position reporting to Manager of Operations and supporting both the project Engineering and Construction needs.   As a Project Engineer at NORESCO, you’ll learn our business by working with our internal project teams to ensure that final engineering designs will achieve the energy savings guarantees and functional performance specified by our customers.  This is an opportunity to participate in a variety of roles while observing design work as it is constructed and becomes part of a successful energy conservation measure.

You will join an engineering-centric organization; NORESCO has over 150 in-house engineers from nearly every discipline. We embrace creativity and support professional development for generalists and specialists. Our project teams include representatives from multiple departments; Development, Analysis, Construction, M&V, Commissioning, and O&M. Our Project Engineers may be engaged on single highly complex projects or  multiple moderate sized projects, from initial development through construction and into operations. This is a flexible position with many opportunities collaborate with other project teams members to gain experience and refine skills across the energy business.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Associate Project Engineer supports a collaborative Design/Build process that leverages NORESCO technical expertise with external engineering, vendors, and subcontractor partners.
  • Complete a variety of design and engineering assignments; Refine schedules, scopes, and budgets with the project team, participate in design review meetings & charrettes, track design submissions, and customer approvals, ensure project scope elements are accurately designed, documented, reviewed, and distributed to the project team for use during construction. 
  • Support the design engineering process during project development; Site investigations, data collection, preparation of conceptual design documents (i.e. schematics, equipment selections, preliminary drawings, scopes of work, specifications, etc.).
  • Support project pricing effort in partnership with NORESCO Construction department; Final bid packages, subcontractor qualification, subcontractor bid-walks, use of third-party consultants, bid reviews, value engineering, evaluation of life cycle, and long-term service agreements, etc.
  • Support project teams on site during construction, commissioning, and testing to resolve design issues, document as-built conditions, and ensure performance objectives are met.
  • Assist with energy cost saving calculations for a variety of system types which may include HVAC, central boiler, chilled water, cogeneration, microgrid, and energy storage projects. 
  • Participate in the equipment procurement process, including development of specifications and scopes of work, vendor relationships, design review, and periodic vendor shop inspections.
  • Anticipated travel 70- 95%.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fundamental Engineer’s registration (or path to obtaining one).
  • Effective communication, leadership, engineering, and project management skills.
  • Strong sense of ownership, understands the importance of maintaining project schedules, resolving issues promptly, and consistently meeting deadlines and commitments.
  • The ability to operate in a team environment and work closely with stakeholders to develop scopes of work and design drawings for various measures.
  • Desire to build and maintain respectful and inclusive working relationships with individual project team members to foster an environment of cooperation and productivity.
  • Eligible to obtain a federal security clearance.
