Job Number: 10719
External Description:
About This Role
We are seeking a Sr Manager, Digital Product Management, Embedded Systems to serve as a business and product leader across embedded controls, edge devices, connectivity, and software-enabled refrigeration solutions. You will own the business case, lead market strategy, and drive the end-to-end delivery of edge-device and connectivity capabilities that are central to Carrier's multi-year growth agenda.
You will report to the Global Product Leader for Edge Devices & Connectivity and work closely with engineering, segment GMs, sales, commercial leadership, service, and the PMO across CST business units. This position offers a flexible hybrid schedule with travel as needed to support customers, engineering teams, and global business stakeholders.
Job Description
Business case & P&L: Develop business cases for embedded systems, edge devices, and connected product capabilities from investment rationale through post-launch revenue, margin, lifecycle value, and adoption performance.
Control systems modernization strategy: Help define the multi-year roadmap for embedded control architecture modernization, including platform consolidation, modular software standards, lifecycle rationalization, backward compatibility, and end-of-life migration planning.
Unified platform leadership: Own product requirements for next-generation controller and edge-device platforms, ensuring architecture decisions support feature reuse, scalable deployment, regional requirements, and long-term maintainability.
Firmware lifecycle & OTA ownership: Define product requirements for device management, version governance, release readiness, and over-the-air update capabilities across relevant product lines and connected installed bases.
Market strategy: Lead segment strategy and growth planning, market segmentation, competitive positioning, pricing discipline, and value proposition definition across hardware, firmware, connectivity, and software-enabled offerings.
NPI leadership: Drive NPI execution with clear stage-gate discipline, launch readiness, cross-functional coordination, customer validation, and commercialization ownership from concept through field deployment.
Competencies:
Strong business case ownership with clear P&L orientation; able to build, defend, and manage investment cases rather than simply administer product backlogs.
Ability to define and drive strategy and growth planning; sets market and platform direction while making clear recommendations in ambiguous environments.
Embedded systems product credibility; understands how controller software, firmware, connectivity, protocols, and hardware-dependent software are built, released, deployed, and maintained in the field.
Platform modernization leadership; able to translate fragmented legacy architectures into practical roadmaps for consolidation, modularization, backward compatibility, and phased migration.
Proven track record in NPI execution and end-to-end delivery in hardware, connected product, or industrial software environments.
Cross-functional influence; able to align engineering, service, commercial, and senior leadership around roadmaps, tradeoffs, funding decisions, and launch readiness.
Skills:
Strategic planning and value management, including pricing discipline, investment prioritization, and roadmap tradeoff management.
Customer relationship management with a strong external commercial orientation and the ability to translate customer needs into product requirements.
Product and services management across hardware, firmware, embedded software, connectivity-adjacent software, diagnostics, and service enablement.
Domain fluency in edge devices, IoT gateways, embedded controllers, telematics, connected hardware platforms, or industrial equipment software.
Working knowledge of firmware release governance, modular software design, and field deployment constraints.
Familiarity with communication protocols and middleware concepts relevant to connected industrial products, such as CAN, J1939, MQTT, APIs, or equivalent standards.
Understanding of OTA update architectures, including firmware-over-the-air and software-over-the-air delivery, release readiness, and field update reliability.
Strong analytical capability, structured use of VOC, data-driven insights, market analysis, and installed-base intelligence.
Strategic thinking in ambiguous or evolving environments to make clear recommendations, not just options.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Computer Science
8+ years of product management experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex software-for-hardware, embedded systems, or connected product portfolios.
5+ years of hands-on product management experience owning a roadmap, defining requirements, building business cases, and driving products from concept through delivery in a B2B or industrial context.
Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, Computer Science, or a related technical field; MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.
Experience leading platform modernization, including embedded software consolidation, controller architecture transitions, lifecycle rationalization, or migration planning across multiple product generations.
Background in transport refrigeration, commercial trailer, fleet management, cold chain, HVAC, industrial equipment, or adjacent hardware-software domains.
Experience with connected product platforms, telematics, IoT-enabled embedded systems, remote monitoring ecosystems, or digital-service integration.
Familiarity with OTA update architectures, firmware lifecycle governance, diagnostic tooling, field service toolchains, or release reliability improvement.
Familiarity with product planning processes such as FGPP, MGPP, stage-gate, or equivalent portfolio governance frameworks.
