External Description:

Company Overview
Automated Logic Corporation (ALC), a subsidiary of Carrier Global Corporation, is a leading provider of innovative building management solutions. ALC’s technologies are designed to optimize energy efficiency, sustainability, and occupant comfort across a wide range of commercial, institutional, and government facilities. Through a global network of independent dealers and North American branch offices, ALC delivers intuitive systems that control and monitor critical building functions such as HVAC, lighting, and energy usage.

About This Role

Join a team that’s shaping the future of smart, sustainable buildings across Ohio—including a growing footprint in the Columbus market. As a Building Automation Systems (BAS) Engineer, you will design intelligent systems that enhance energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and operational performance in facilities such as schools, hospitals, government buildings, and commercial spaces.

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the early-stage growth of our Columbus operations, helping to establish a strong technical presence and build relationships with local customers. You’ll be part of a collaborative regional team driving innovation across new and existing markets, with opportunities to work on a diverse range of projects and influence how we deliver solutions in Central Ohio.

In this role, you will be responsible for the design and documentation of building automation systems that support intelligent, energy-efficient building operations. This includes developing equipment-level wiring schematics, point layouts, control sequences, hardware selection, network architecture, and system integration strategies. You will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure that all designs meet project specifications, customer expectations, and industry standards.

This position reports directly to the Branch Engineering Supervisor and offers a clear path for professional growth, including opportunities to mentor junior engineers and advance into senior technical or leadership roles.

This is a hybrid role, requiring 1-2 days in the office and 3-4 days remote per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design complete BAS solutions, including controllers, sensors, relays, actuators, and network infrastructure.

  • Develop submittal packages that include wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, and point schedules to support programming, graphics, installation, and commissioning.

  • Interpret mechanical, electrical, and architectural construction documents to ensure compliance with project requirements.

  • Select appropriate hardware and components based on system specifications and performance criteria.

  • Create and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify technical or scope-related issues.

  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of engineering documentation.

  • Adhere to company, customer, and safety standards throughout the design and implementation process.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.

  • For qualified candidates, provide mentorship to junior engineers and support technical development across the team.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 4 + years of experience in HVAC or BAS controls.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, building automation, or a related engineering field.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in the building automation industry.

  • Proficiency in interpreting architectural, mechanical, and electrical blueprints and specifications.

  • Familiarity with building automation communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, and LON.

  • Experience with engineering tools and platforms including Microsoft Visio, EDS, Eikon, SiteBuilder, and ViewBuilder.

  • Strong understanding of control theory, including PID loops and I/O configurations.

  • Effective communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
