About this role
The Energy Engineer designs, develops, and evaluates energy conservation measures in commercial buildings and Industrial facilities by using and expanding their understanding of building HVAC, domestic hot water, process loads, lighting, and envelope systems. After conducting thorough assessments of building energy requirements and expenditures, the Energy Engineer presents and works with lead engineers to implement comprehensive energy reduction plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct energy audits and develop energy savings calculations and develop budget quality cost estimates for energy conservation measures (ECMs) at commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.
- Perform energy savings calculations using whole-building modeling (HAP, eQUEST, or other) and temperature- bin analysis methods to calculate savings associated with ECM upgrades.
- Identify and quantify energy conservation measures associated with HVAC systems, energy management systems, building envelope improvements, and renewable energy technologies.
- Develop savings analysis approach and assist in development of complementary M&V plan.
- Understand financial analysis associated with utility tariffs, alternative financing vehicles and energy and operational costs.
- Prepare technical reports including writing detailed ECM descriptions and supporting documents to be included in proposal submissions, and present proposals to clients at oral interviews.
- Be familiar with all phases of project development including conceptual and detailed design, construction phase, commissioning and warranty.
- Participate in meetings with customers, facilities staff, design and construction personnel to understand project goals.
- Review design documents, equipment submittals, O&M manuals, and supporting documentation to validate scopes of work.
- Analyze utility bill data to determine customer energy performance parameters. Develop energy and ancillary (operation & maintenance) savings.
- Perform cooling and heating load calculations to properly size HVAC equipment (chillers, boilers, etc.)
- Assist lead engineers on energy related projects by using knowledge to ensure compliance and proper implementation of capital energy reduction improvements
- Support in maintenance and ongoing improvements of existing analytical tool templates and energy audit procedures
- Support junior team members in conducting energy efficiency analyses and provide site visit guidance.
- Possess ability to perform physical tasks including but not limited to: Standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time, reading and recording information on handwritten forms and computer screens, using hand tools (such as powered tools, measuring devices, etc.), lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, navigating in small/enclosed places, climbing stairs and ladders, and working in loud, warm and cold environments.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- 4+ years of continuous experience in the energy sector including building energy systems, equipment and energy efficiency.
Preferred Qualifications:
Other qualifications you may have that would be beneficial in this role include:
- PE license / EIT
- CEM, LEED or other industry certifications.
- Project finance or Energy as a Service development experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with significant expertise in Excel.
- Demonstrated passion for energy efficiency, decarbonization and clean energy technology.
- Collaborative personality, strong team player, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Self-motivation, attention to detail and ability to multitask.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for learning, proven ability to work independently and within in a team environment, and to proactively identify problems and solutions.
