About The Role:

The Compliance Engineer for Global Standards & Certifications is a key role within the Kidde Fire Systems managing strategic standards compliance and global approvals activity in support of worldwide product sales and expansion into new geographic segments. The Kidde Fire Systems develops Fire Detection & alarm solutions covering a diverse product portfolio encompassing a broad range of control panels, detectors, input, output, notification and releasing modules. This involves certifying products to global regulatory standards covering electrical, performance, and safety aspects of the product. The compliance engineer will be well versed in compliance, industry trends, and emerging regulatory changes that impact the design and test requirements for the controls product portfolio.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Product certifications, re-certifications, revision requests, compliance to UL, FM, CSFM, NYC, CE, FCC etc. and other global regulatory standards
  • Apply for agency approvals, manage agency testing and obtain agency approvals for Kidde Fire Systems products
  • Function as an Agency Liaison between the Agency and Design Engineering
  • Manage all Agency Factory Inspections and Audits
  • Maintain Agency files
  • Assessing impact of standard changes
  • Provide current and new agency and regulatory certification/maintenance costs, requirements and interpretation guidance as requested
  • Obtain and maintain agency certification for labs.
  • Manage all Agency P.O.s and ensure invoices get paid.
  • Monitor schedules of agency submittals.
  • Increase knowledge and understanding of Agency requirements
  • Make Design engineers aware of agency requirements and changes.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders including engineering, product and project management to understand current regulatory status, risks, and issues.
  • Develop a certification and compliance strategy / roadmap and coordinate implementation plans within   compliance, engineering, product management and project management
  • Work with regulatory subject matter experts across the Kidde Fire Systems to develop best practices, align on solutions, and develop overall competencies.
  • Participate in standards committee proceedings and /or align with committee members within to understand and communicate proposed revision content and the relevant risks to the controls business.
  • Understand regional compliance worldwide and assist with planning and execution to achieve on-time product launch
  • Develop and coordinate global certification plans with sales, marketing, and engineering functions to align on priorities and portfolio requirements.
  • Identify and develop internal laboratory qualification capabilities to meet future needs
  • Investigate and recommend methods for improving performance, predictability, and efficiency both internally as well as with global certification partners
  • Development of standard work for both the functional and key cross-functional activities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical discipline with 5+ years of compliance engineer experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with worldwide approval / certification agency testing methods and documentation
  • Demonstrated competence in communication of technical aspects of certification to varying stakeholders in the business organization including executive management
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Familiarity with certification standards and their application (e.g. UL, FM, CE etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving product certification objectives with strong experience in regulatory compliance role
