Transportation Provider Performance Leader: Climate Solutions Americas (CSA)
Job Number: 11969
External Description:
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced, results-oriented Transportation Provider Performance Manager to lead transportation provider governance, operational accountability, and service excellence across our multi-site logistics network. In this role, you will establish and manage standardized carrier scorecards, drive service-level agreement (SLA) compliance, and oversee corrective action workflows across Full Truckload (FTL), Less-Than-Truckload (LTL), and parcel freight modes.
Serving as the key operational bridge between external freight providers and internal stakeholders—including Transportation Planning, Procurement, Distribution Centers, Customer Service, and Quality—you will identify capacity constraints, elevate primary tender acceptance, and eliminate avoidable freight costs. The ideal candidate is an analytical, autonomous self-starter capable of navigating ambiguity, establishing operational playbooks from the ground up, and leveraging advanced transportation platforms (such as TMS and project44) to ensure milestone visibility and exceptional on-time execution.
Location & Work Arrangement
- Primary Work Location: Atlanta Digital Hub (Atlanta, GA)
- Work Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote)
- Travel Requirements: Approximately 25% domestic travel within the United States
Key Responsibilities
- Provider Governance & Performance Management: Establish and manage standardized carrier scorecards across FTL, LTL, parcel, and specialized freight modes; continuously monitor provider execution against SLAs, contractual commitments, and operational KPIs.
- Continuous Improvement & Escalations: Own provider performance improvement plans (PIPs), root-cause corrective actions (CAPs), escalation management, and recurring business reviews.
- Service Execution: Lead strategic initiatives to drive primary tender acceptance, on-time pickup (OTP), on-time delivery (OTD), and appointment-update compliance.
- Capacity & Planning Alignment: Partner closely with Transportation Planning to identify regional and lane-specific capacity constraints, address recurring service failures, and reduce spot-market freight exposure.
- Shipment Visibility & Milestone Tracking: Monitor tracking compliance, real-time shipment visibility, and milestone accuracy through project44 (P44), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and integrated tracking platforms.
- Carrier Accountability: Hold providers accountable for appointment tracking gaps, missing status updates, transit exceptions, and delayed shipments.
- Claims & Quality Resolution: Partner cross-functionally with Customer Service, Distribution Centers, and Quality teams to investigate freight loss and damage, resolve claims, and prevent systemic delivery failures.
- Network & Multi-Tier Analysis: Evaluate carrier performance holistically by individual provider, lane, shipping facility, business unit, and transportation mode.
- Procurement Collaboration: Partner with Procurement on carrier sourcing, strategic allocation, contract compliance reviews, rate validation, and ongoing vendor qualifications.
- Cost Optimization: Identify concrete opportunities to reduce overall freight spend, minimize premium and expedited transportation, and eliminate avoidable accessorial charges.
- Governance Protocols: Establish formal escalation frameworks featuring clear response-time thresholds, designated tier ownership, and resolution protocols.
- Onboarding & Readiness: Support provider onboarding, standard operating procedure (SOP) training, operational readiness, and compliance certification.
Key Deliverables
- Standardized weekly transportation provider performance scorecards.
- Monthly carrier review sessions with documented corrective actions and tracking.
- Tailored provider performance improvement plans for underperforming carriers.
- Primary tender acceptance, route guide compliance, and capacity commitment reporting.
- Appointment compliance and end-to-end shipment visibility improvement roadmaps.
- Freight damage investigation reports and claims reduction action plans.
- Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) conducted alongside Procurement and Transportation leadership.
- Comprehensive provider escalation and operational accountability playbooks.
Success Measures
- On-time pickup (OTP) and on-time delivery (OTD) performance rates.
- Primary carrier tender acceptance and contracted capacity utilization.
- Appointment scheduling and milestone-update compliance.
- Real-time shipment tracking coverage and data integrity.
- Reduction of transit exceptions, aging freight, and provider dwell times.
- Measurable decline in freight claims frequency, damage severity, and claims recovery timelines.
- Spot-market freight utilization and expedited freight spend reduction.
- Measurable decrease in accessorial, detention, and layover expenditures.
- Timely closure rate and low recurrence rate of provider corrective action plans.
- Provider SLA adherence and contractual compliance.
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED with 8+ years of experience in transportation operations, carrier management, or logistics; OR Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or Business Administration with 5+ years of experience in transportation operations, carrier management, or logistics.
- 3+ years managing third-party transportation providers across multi-site distribution networks, regional manufacturing plants, or national logistics facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Comprehensive operational knowledge of FTL, LTL, and parcel freight modes, transportation contract execution, and carrier performance management systems.
- Proven track record of improving carrier service levels, transit reliability, and contractual compliance through structured scorecards and corrective action processes.
- Strong analytical capabilities, sound judgment, negotiation skills, and the demonstrated ability to align cross-functional teams without direct managerial authority.
- Hands-on operational experience with enterprise transportation software, including SAP, Blue Yonder TMS, and project44 (P44) visibility software.
- Prior experience managing carrier procurement events, freight claims management workflows, and formal transportation contract administration.
- Professional background in commercial manufacturing, industrial product distribution, or complex multi-facility supply chains.
- Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt), APICS (CSCP, CLTD), or American Society of Transportation and Logistics professional credentials.
Leadership Expectations
Establish a culture of mutual accountability and high operational standards across external providers and internal teams. This position requires an operational mindset, self-starting initiative, and the confidence to operate effectively within ambiguous and evolving environments. Success is achieved by transforming raw operational data into actionable insights, fostering transparent provider partnerships, eliminating recurring operational failures, and delivering quantifiable service and cost improvements.
