About this role

Carrier Corporation’s Air Management Systems group in Syracuse, NY, is seeking a qualified student candidate for a full-time position during the summer of 2027. The AMS group develops advanced, highly efficient fan technologies for HVAC applications. This internship offers an opportunity to work and learn alongside practicing engineers and to assist in projects that will directly affect products under development and deployed in the field. Students will gain experience in computational fluid dynamics, including the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence models to accelerate fan performance predictions. This experience may also be coupled with experimental laboratory work, including wind tunnel and acoustic testing, applied to a variety of practical engineering problems. Applicants should be self-motivated individuals, ideally with some background in fluid mechanics, such as related undergraduate coursework or research experience.

The candidate’s responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Work with other members of the AMS team to assist with the design and development of fan technologies using computational- and laboratory-based methods, including application of machine learning/AI to engineering data sets
  • Develop practical engineering skills while seeing a primary project to completion
  • Summarize progress and findings in weekly meetings and in a final report to management

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred coursework experience in fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and turbomachinery design.
  • Familiarity within the following software: computer-aided design (CAD), such as SolidWorks, SpaceClaim, or Creo; programming environments such as MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW; commercial CFD codes, such as ANSYS Fluent
  • Experience in the application of AI models to engineering problems
  • Strong interest in the design and development of turbomachinery
  • Previous research experience in a laboratory environment
  • Interest in solving engineering problems through experimental and computational techniques
  • Good communication and organizational skills
