About this role
Carrier Corporation's Air Management Systems group in Syracuse, NY, is seeking a qualified student candidate for a full-time position during the summer of 2024. The AMS group develops advanced, highly efficient fan technologies for HVAC applications. This internship offers an opportunity to work and learn alongside practicing engineers and assist in projects directly affecting products under development and deployed in the field. Students will gain experience in experimental laboratory work, including wind tunnel and acoustic testing, applied to various practical engineering problems. Applicants should be self-motivated individuals, ideally with some background in fluid mechanics, such as related undergraduate coursework or research experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with other AMS team members to assist with designing and developing fan technologies using computational- and laboratory-based methods.
- Develop practical engineering skills while seeing a primary project to completion.
- Summarize progress and findings in weekly meetings and a final report to management
Required Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related fields
- 3.0 or higher GPA
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework:
- Introductory fluid mechanics
- Aerodynamics
- Turbomachinery design
- Familiarity with the following software:
- Computer-aided design (CAD), such as SolidWorks, SpaceClaim, Creo
- MATLAB
- Python
- LabVIEW
- Strong interest in the design and development of rotating machinery
- Previous research experience in a laboratory environment
- Good communication and organizational skills
