Overview 

Carrier's Control Box Group designs, develops, and manufactures control and control panel solutions for the HVAC, refrigeration, and other OEM-related markets globally. Carrier is seeking an Electrical Engineer to be based in Fort Wayne, IN. The available opportunity is a critical and comprehensive role within the Control Box Engineering group. Carrier is a fast-paced and growing business and we are looking for a self-directed contributor and team player who will help us achieve and exceed product and business growth targets while simultaneously driving improved quality and customer satisfaction.

The successful candidate will work as a member of an engineering design team that develops electrical control panels and enclosures from concept through production including analysis of component layouts to ensure a robust and cost-competitive panel design. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties 

 

Electrical Design  

  • Interaction with team members both internal and external to create new control box designs and features according to their specifications 

  • Management of your workflow for assigned projects 

  • Control panel layout, wire harness creation, and component selection. 

  • Selection, application, and calculation of power electronics and electromechanical devices for control and power distribution in larger electromechanical systems.   

  • Examples include Mold Case Circuit Breakers, Control Transformers, Fuses, Contactors, etc. 

  • Utilization of AutoCad as well as Microsoft Office to complete design-level documentation.   

  • Examples of documentation include harness drawings and bills-of-material 

  • Assist mechanical designers in the creation of enclosure and assembly drawings 

  • Assembly and evaluation of physical mock-ups of control boxes and panels 

  • Manage electronic Engineering Change Notice (ECN) generation and implementation through the Windchill product data management system 

Production & Prototype Support 

  •  Evaluation and approval of components with suppliers to meet requirements for function and performance 

  • Administer or participate in project design reviews 

  • Evaluation of electrical failures in our products to determine root cause and corrective actions 

  • Support of sustaining products including quality improvements, cost reductions, component obsolescence, and failure analysis  

  • Travel to customer, supplier, and manufacturing sites to support concept generation and pre-production builds 

  • Travel approximately 20% 

 

Desired Experience: 

  • Familiarity with electromechanical devices (motors, breakers, relays, etc) and electromechanical enclosures and control panel development is highly desirable 

  • Familiarity with Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning systems is highly desirable 

  • Familiarity with national and international standards is also highly desirable.  

  • Examples include NEMA, IP, ANSI, UL1995, UL60335, UL508a, and NFPA 70. 

  • Experience in using AutoCAD or a similar 2d drawing program for schematic and wire harness design is preferred 

  • Project management skills are considered very beneficial 

 Required Experience:  

  •  BS/BA degree EE/EET with 0-4+ years of experience 

  • Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot electrical schematics 

  • Familiarity with standard office productivity tools (Microsoft Office, etc.)
