About this role:

The Associate Director (AD), Platform Product Management (PPM) you will work with a diverse cross-functional group of stakeholders to build new digital products and services. In this role, you will own a large portfolio of platform services that align to distinct value streams. You will lead a team of direct reports who will each be responsible for their own area paths (or logical groupings of services). You will guide and mentor your team to work backwards from customer needs and application product roadmaps to identify and deliver foundational platform services before they are needed. You will support build vs. by analysis and guide products from conception to launch by connecting the technical and business worlds. You can break down complex problems into actionable steps that drive product development speed.

The AD, PPM works closely with application product managers, architects, engineers, designers, and business leaders to help design and develop products and services that enable speed to market, economies of scale, consistent user experiences and improved asset performance. Platform Product Management is responsible for guiding products and services throughout discovery and execution cycle, focusing specifically on analyzing, positioning, launching, supporting, and continuously enhancing solutions to meet customer and stakeholder needs.

The AD, PPM will lead a range of digital, technology, and product development efforts critical to Carrier’s continued business growth – spanning from business innovation to digital product innovation to agile software development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for delivery of strategic business capabilities by the area path teams, and maintenance and prioritization of the value stream
  • Primary owner of customer relationship
  • Partner with the Application / Platform Lead to create the value stream as aligned with product strategy and roadmap
  • Collaborate and sign off on the area path priorities
  • Support the area path teams in managing strategic value including service and “product” epic validation, elaboration, and acceptance
  • Responsible for being able to represent current service and “product” epic level status with support from Technical Value Stream Lead
  • Set strategic vision and priority of the value stream
  • Understand digital platform eco-systems that aggregate micro-services into solutions
  • Assess and analyze competitive landscape for third party services
  • Identify problem statement and address that need with platform offerings
  • Assessing growth opportunities for products and services across the enterprise
  • Create bold visions and strategies for digital products, identifying forward-thinking opportunities
  • Deliver customer-data-centric strategies that drive revenue, conversion, engagement and retention
  • Work with customers and application product managers to understand needs and ensure strategies will be effective
  • Structure and execute against detailed product roadmaps, breaking down high-level product goals into executable units of work for designers and developers
  • Partner with technology and design counterparts to ensure proper prioritization of discovery efforts and support execution efforts as needed
  • Launch new products and features, test their performance, and iterate quickly to ensure adoption
  • Work collaboratively across functions and BU’s to ensure strategy is fully aligned, earning consensus and support from leaders and stakeholders
  • Practice agile development methodologies, coaching others as needed
  • Strong analytical, strategic, and creative problem-solving skills
  • Business, financial, and technical acumen, with focus on results and outcomes
  • Business owner mentality, willingness to roll up sleeves to do whatever is necessary
  • Effective communication with key stakeholders and ability to influence multiple stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Understanding of how new technologies can shape companies and deliver growth
  • Passion about cloud and mobile technologies to generate strategic differentiation
  • Experience managing multiple, concurrent product roadmaps and stakeholders
  • Direct experience working on an agile software development team
  • Experience working with and managing remote, globally dispersed teams
  • Strong interest in emerging technology, software, and IoT
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 7+ years PaaS or SaaS experience managing the product lifecycle of micro-services
  • 10+ years of digital or software product experience including experience in product management and/or product owner role
  • 7+ years of proven, hands-on experience in Agile methodologies
  • 7+ years managing team of Product Manager direct reports
  • 5+ years experience working with remote and globally distributed teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pre-existing experience and/or demonstrated aptitude for learning digital tools such as Aha!, Jira, Confluence, Miro, LucidChart, etc
  • Demonstrated knowledge of User Experience fields of research, interaction design and creative design
  • Experience bringing innovative, impactful products to market
  • Great communication – you can “translate” bi-laterally across business stakeholders, design colleagues and development and engineering teams
  • Be bold – identify and communicate misses where the team needs to pivot as well as underserved opportunities where the team should take greater risks and push forward
  • Business acumen – desire to understand how every new feature delights customers and impacts the business
  • Technology passion – innate drive to learn and test out new technologies
  • Detail oriented – you can see the big picture but also sweat the small stuff
  • Master’s degree in applicable discipline highly desired.
  • Agile Product Owner and/or Scrum Master certified or have “on the job” experience.
