About this role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will conduct product development activities and studies, execute and analyze tests, and produce parts, designs, or sketches, following all appropriate Mechanical Engineering design, safety, and qualification standards.

In this position, you will be responsible for developing and applying gas furnace technology to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and equipment reliability targets. The ideal candidate will have experience in the design and development of residential gas furnaces.  Knowledge of combustion systems, blower systems, control systems, and other related furnace components is important.

In this role, you will interface with product development engineers, lab technicians, model makers and designers. You will also be collaborating with members from other functional groups such as Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Suppliers, and Advanced Technology Development.

Key Responsibilities

The candidate will have responsibility for the following in addition to ad hoc assignments.

  • Work with project teams, providing support to cross-functional project teams.
  • Collaborate with Quality/Reliability/Manufacturing/Sourcing to implement key metrics into the design of the product and ensure all reliability design goals are achieved.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with diverse audiences including but not limited to; junior engineers, cross functional team members, global suppliers, and external customers including service managers and technicians.
  • Will contribute to their team or department by applying their knowledge of one or more functional areas.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Development of test procedures to evaluate new designs.
  • Participate in product development activities including engineering studies, feasibility studies, cost estimates, implementation of standard and non-standard specifications, drawing board layout and interpretation, and development of performance or maintenance requirements.
  • Execute tests for systems, sub-systems, and components. Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives.
  • Follow all appropriate design, safety, and qualification standards in development programs.
  • Work toward commonality and optimization of product & components to reduce design errors and escapes.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and/or combustion.
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in an Engineering discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience implementing continuous improvements and/or standardize processes.
  • Experience in the development of residential gas furnace (or related appliance) combustion, heat exchanger, and/or airflow related hardware.
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Project leadership experience.
  • Model Based Development (MBD) experience is preferred. Ability to write technical, reliability, and quality specifications.
  • Strong cross functional team experience.
  • Experience working in a team environment with support groups (product quality, testing, marketing).
  • Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Project.
  • Organized with strong attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities.
  • Capacity to self-direct/motivate with a vision toward overall product goals.
