About This Role

The Residential, Light Commercial Systems (RLCS) Controller is a key strategic leader reporting directly to the Sr Director, Global Segment Controller. The RLCS Controller has direct oversight of several business units: Residential HVAC ($5B revenues), Light Commercial HVAC ($1B revenues), Ductless ($0.5B revenue), and Replacement Components ($0.7B revenues). Critical tasks include but are not limited to timely and accurate month/quarter close, accounting policy compliance, execution of strategic organizational transformation, oversight of SOX control environment, as well as leadership and development of high functioning accounting and controllership team of 25 individuals including 6 direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and improve the monthly closing process to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting

  • Manage and deliver SOX deliverables in line with WHQ calendar, including gap assessment completion, process narratives reviews and updates, annual controls testing and issue remediation to maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting

  • Execute Controllership transformation initiatives to optimize quality, timeliness and effectiveness of the function, including the support of the implementation of Centers of Excellence

  • Advises management on complex issues related to accounting and business matters, including resolution of complex accounting matters, resource utilization, system implementations and budget forecasting assumptions where appropriate to ensure compliance with Carrier policy and U.S. GAAP.

  • Leverage existing Carrier systems as well as identify automation opportunities to aid in accomplishing Carrier’s transformation agenda

  • Liaise with and support requests from External and Internal Auditors

  • Ensure quality of balance sheet reconciliations and perform periodic review procedures across all business units within scope

  • Partner with Digital Technology on ERP and WHQ global implementations (incl. Ariba, Central Finance) implementations and provide sign-off at key process stage gates (design, testing, go-live, monitoring) and ensure appropriate internal controls are identified, documented, and implemented in advance of go-live.

  • Provides overall leadership and feedback to Controllership team members to improve the capabilities and execution of the team, ensure robust succession planning and provide robust career opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of accounting and / or finance experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA strongly preferred

  • MS (preferred) in Accounting, Finance, or Business

  • Experience in both public and private accounting preferred

  • Experience working with SAP, HFM and advanced MS Excel skills

  • Experience with ongoing oversight of a monthly close cycle

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, particularly during the month end close

  • Analytical and strategic thinker

  • Experience and presence communicating at all levels of the organization, including senior management

  • Technical accounting proficiency

  • Critical change management skills to assess what is not working, what needs to be done, to create plans in place for direction, and to implement lessons learned/best practices

  • Proactive and self-initiating work style.  A hands-on leader who is not afraid of rolling up their sleeves to achieve the right outcomes

  • Experience working in matrixed environments

  • Experience leading and managing a geographic dispersed team
