About This Role
The lighting Design Engineer will perform lighting and lighting control audits and design. Will work closely with construction and sub-contractors as well as M&V staff, project developers and other engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform lighting energy audits and design.
- Become knowledgeable in and fluid in the use of SnapCount auditing tool.
- Create detailed audits to establish baseline energy use and to propose optimal energy efficient lighting and lighting control upgrades.
- Calculate energy savings.
- Create Bid Docs and obtain project costs.
- Keep up-to-date on the latest lighting technologies and building codes.
- Maintain lists of material costs for budget pricing and to evaluate subcontractor proposals.
- Become knowledgeable and fluid in the use of internal lighting database.
- Deploy and track data loggers in the field.
- Write scopes of work for lighting to be included in subcontractor bid documents.
- Write detailed ECM descriptions to be included in competitive proposal submissions and/or construction contract documents.
- Perform calculations of annual energy/cost savings for identified energy projects.
- Develop budget quality project cost estimates.
- Provide technical, communication, and leadership skills necessary to effectively present findings and corrective actions.
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously, often under aggressive deadlines.
- Ensure customer/client satisfaction with tasks performed.
- Develop and maintain relationships with contractors and field personnel to develop additional business for the group.
- Foster effective and positive business relationships with all parties throughout the project phases.
Required Qualifications:
- Associates Degree
- 3+ years in the commercial lighting industry
- 50% travel required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Energy auditing, construction, commissioning, development of project cost estimates, annual energy/cost savings calculations, and life cycle cost analysis
- Experience with field testing equipment (light meters, light loggers, ultrasonic flow meters, electrical meters, M&V equipment, and others) a plus
- Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and business relationships
- Ability to work independently with a remote team
- Proficiency with supporting software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
- Proficiency with remote communication tools (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, SharePoint, etc.) preferred
