NORESCO’s Energy Engineering team is responsible for identifying energy savings and carbon reduction opportunities for facilities of all sizes in support of our Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC). Our Engineering team’s primary focus is to analyze current energy systems and consumption and to make recommendations for upgrades necessary to decrease carbon footprint and overall utility costs. This is a remote position.

About this role:
We have an immediate need for a Senior Energy Engineer in our West Region.
At NORESCO, teamwork is essential as every person on our team plays a vital role in the successful completion of every project we do. As a Senior Energy Engineer, you will have a great deal of interaction with customers as well as other NORESCO staff including Sales, Project Development, Construction, Measurement and Verification (M&V) and other Engineering staff. You will also be representing NORESCO during customer sites visits, progress meetings, and sales presentations. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to possess strong verbal and written communication skills as well as a strong technical background.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze utility bill data to determine customer energy performance parameters
- Perform existing building assessments to take inventory of and analyze HVAC, water, building envelope, and plant efficiency; make retrofit recommendations based on impacts of energy, operational, and environmental savings
- Set up BAS trends, install data logging equipment, and analyze collected data.
- Identify and evaluate energy conservation measures using energy modeling and spreadsheet analysis
- Evaluate renewable energy and resilience opportunities using industry tools and spreadsheet analysis
- Develop initial cost estimates associated with mechanical energy conservation measures.
- Write scopes of work for HVAC and building automation system improvements, including points lists and sequences of operation, to be included in subcontractor bid documents
- Write detailed ECM descriptions to be included in competitive proposal submissions and/or construction contract documents
- Participate in customer meetings and presentations, including competitive oral interviews, to present technical solutions and alternatives
- Research into emerging markets such as battery energy storage, microgrids, electrification of transportation, etc
- Research and understand legislation/local code requirements for States in the West Region
- Collaborate with other team members, including those in the M&V, design, and construction groups
- Availability to travel out of state to customer sites (up to 35%)
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in energy auditing and analysis, particularly related to HVAC and building automation systems
- 5+ years of experience working for an ESCO developing energy conservation measures for ESPC
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in HVAC equipment and systems, including chillers, boilers, air handlers, motors and variable speed drives
- Expertise in building automation systems, and the ability to develop control strategies to reduce energy consumption
- Expertise in renewable energy systems, battery storage, and/or microgrids preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) preferred
- Ability to work independently with a remote team
- Proficiency with supporting software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
- Proficiency with remote communication tools (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, SharePoint, etc.) preferred
- Proficiency with building energy modeling software (eQUEST, EnergyPlus) and renewable energy tools preferred
