New Product Introduction (NPI) Sr. Quality Engineer
Det-Tronics is looking for an experienced, process-driven, results-oriented, high-performing Quality Engineer to champion New Product Introduction.
Det-Tronics is a $150M technologically innovative, projects-based global P&L protecting customers in many challenging environments with high-end flame and gas detection products and systems. This role will function as a Program Quality Leader, providing direct support to the design centers and NPD Program Managers located in the region. This position will be responsible for ensuring that all Quality elements as defined in APQP and Passport are complete and accurate in advance of any scheduled QRB/PRB reviews conducted during the NPD process.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
Ownership of the five phases of APQP and alignment with the NPD/Passport process.
- Validate and approve the product requirements as defined in the program ATOR (Customer, Regulatory, Functional/Performance, Codes/Standards and Business) and ensure that all defined requirements are successfully achieved at product launch.
- Coordinate with design center Compliance Leaders to ensure that all agency and regulatory requirements exceed minimum standards.
- Align/Partner with NPD Program Managers and Robust Design Leaders to ensure that all Passport and Quality requirements are successfully completed
- Provide DFQ/DFR/DFM support to drive a zero-escape mindset that aligns with the Carrier QMS
- Responsible for implementing the Carrier QOPS process and facilitating these events for ECS, MCS and Pilot production to validate the design and manufacturing process
- Interface with the Regional PPAP Leaders to ensure that all required PPAP elements are completed on time with appropriate objective evidence
- Support annual Product Planning sessions with each of the design centers to understand the future development roadmap and proactively plan to support.
- Develop and implement standard tools/methods across the design centers (Quality Plans, PRB/QRB slide templates, etc.)
- Act as a voting member for relevant QRB reviews in support of QOPS output results and data
- Coordinate with other regional Quality Program Managers to share best practices and lessons learned
- Develop a set of APQP/Passport baseline performance metrics relevant to all Design Centers in order to identify process gaps and opportunities for process improvement.
- Provide feedback/input to the Passport Governance & Compliance Manager regarding potential changes to policies and templates that would improve/simplify the overall NPD process
Main Goals and Objectives
- Promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement
- Mentor, coach and educate Program Managers and RDLs on the requirements of APQP to achieve a “Zero Escape” mindset during development.
- Ensure that our products are design to the highest quality standards and are safe and compliant
- Drive year over year improvement in FPY and CE DPPM.
- Operationalize the QOPS process with Program Management, design centers and manufacturing locations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering discipline
- 5+ years in Product Quality and Project/Program Management
- 2+ years of experience with APQP management and implementation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s preferred
- Experience with and application of ISO and AIAG standards preferred
- Qualification in Project/Program Management, Certification preferred (CPM/PMI/PMP)
- Six Sigma or Lean/Continuous Improvement experience. Formal certification preferred.
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as outside organizations as needed
- Ability to manage and support multiple programs simultaneously with minimal direct supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
