About this role

As the Director of Software Engineering at Carrier Digital, you will play a pivotal role in leading and nurturing high-performance software engineering teams located globally, including Technology Product Owners (TPOs) and a comprehensive Platform Engineering team encompassing DevOps, QA, SRE, and Cybersecurity functions.  This includes both internal and external contractor teams. You will ensure consistent delivery on commitments with a keen focus on quality and efficiency enhancements. This role requires a hands-on leader with a demonstrated track record of managing in a global delivery environment and has supported maturing processes, mentoring software engineers, and managers through every phase of software development. The ideal candidate will have experience leading teams with over 50 developers.

Key Responsibilities

• Guide the software engineering efforts for the Digital Foundry teams, responsible for developing Carrier’s next generation of digital products.
• Steer product delivery teams to improve and monitor our Agile processes and software development practices.
• Manage resource allocation and deliverables for the global software engineering organization, ensuring goals, objectives, and timelines are met within budget.
• Develop and implement resource planning for key engineering developments, ensuring on-time delivery of release goals.
• Use a metrics-driven approach to monitor team productivity and the quality of output.
• Foster the growth, training, structure, and capabilities of assigned development teams, including both internal and contractor teams located worldwide.
• Provide mentorship to engineers, TPOs, and the Platform Engineering team on design, development, and best practices, fostering the next generation of technology leaders at Carrier Digital.
• Work closely with our architecture team to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable development initiatives, with a proactive focus on reducing technical debt.
• Identify opportunities for innovation and quality improvements in our codebase and tools.
• Advocate for modular, well-documented software architecture and design, with an emphasis on efficiency and future maintainability.
• Champion a culture of commitment, accountability, teamwork, and excellence.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelors’ degree
• 10+ years of software development experience
• 5+ years of experience in leadership roles leading large, globally-dispersed teams of over 50 developers.

Preferred Qualifications

Other qualifications you may have that would be beneficial in this role include:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• Solid software engineering foundation with an understanding of product design of complex systems, including cloud-native software development (AWS).
• Proficiency in Node/JavaScript, React, Lambda.
• Extensive experience working with Agile
• Strong project management skills, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to influence others.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to lead and inspire software engineering teams, including TPOs and the Platform Engineering team, through strategic thinking and innovation.
• Ability to coordinate resources outside of direct management to support strategies and initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information to a business audience.
• Proven track record of success leading an engineering team in a dynamic, rapidly changing entrepreneurial environment.
• Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced and complex environment.
• Professional or Associate Technical Certifications desirable
