About this role

The Associate Director of Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) and Transformation will help shape our project portfolio and ensuring strategic alignment. This role holds leadership and management roles, responsible for advancing the overall project management maturity, enabling structured work efforts, and ensuring the work of the SPM aligns with the organization's strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish the mission and vision of the SPM, fostering a project-management-oriented culture and mindset within the organization.
  • Engage senior leadership and business partners to define the SPM goals and operating model.
  • Identify and develop SPM roles, team configuration, and recruitment plans in alignment with the agreed-upon SPM goals and objectives.
  • Implement project management processes, methods, tools, guidelines, and standards to support all project teams and stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the agreed-upon process that develops plans and prioritization by leadership and governance.
  • Define, manage, and direct the SPM work effort to track the realization of expected benefits defined in business cases.
  • Regularly review and evaluate opportunities to improve the project management best practices.
  • Build and maintain relationships with senior leadership and key SPM stakeholders, and act as a trusted advisor.
  • Lead the establishment of a project management community of practice to facilitate collaboration and best-practice sharing among project managers and key SPM stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in computer science, information systems or business administration
  • 10+ years of experience in IT and business/industry
  • 5+ years of experience in leadership roles, project management or Strategic Portfolio Management

Preferred Qualifications

Other qualifications you may have that would be beneficial in this role include:

  • Master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Expertise in one or more project management methodologies (e.g., PMI PMBOK, PRINCE2, and Agile).
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
  • A blend of business, IT, financial, and communication skills, capable of explaining IT concepts to business leaders and vice versa.
  • Effective influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Strong strategic conceptual thinking, planning, and execution skills.
  • Deep understanding of current and emerging technologies and their applications to drive digital business.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a strategic resource plan.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Exceptional abstract thinking and problem-solving abilities, capable of making informed decisions in ambiguous situations and complex environments.
  • Able to stay at the forefront of the industry, constantly updating knowledge on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices, and applying these to strategic planning and execution.
