We are currently looking for a Mechanical Instrumentation Technician who can design and build Instrumentation equipment needed for the precision testing of our Fire/Smoke and CO detection products. In this role, you will also support the maintenance and calibration of our equipment, at both of our Colorado and Florida sites, in addition to overseeing the Colorado facility and its maintenance. You will use a wide variety of skills to keep the lab operational and continuously becoming more efficient and effective. Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Instrumentation Engineering Team from a Mechanical Design and Build perspective; you will work with a team of 3 Electrical Instrumentation Engineers that are dedicated to supporting test equipment development, calibration and maintenance of our Colorado and Florida lab sites.
  • Design and build test lab equipment
  • Work with the Electrical Instrumentation Engineers to incorporate Electrical Instruments in new test equipment.
  • Work with the different cross-functional groups at Kidde to understand instrumentation projects needs and timelines; including but not limited to Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, Product Test, Production, Quality and Project Management teams.
  • Communicate the progress of instrumentation projects to the Kidde team and leadership 
  • Lead design reviews for test equipment development.
  • Collaborate with design team and test engineers to verify lab equipment meets testing procedures for fire and gas detection products.
  • Drive tasks closure to meet company and customer goals.
  • Review agency requirements to ensure equipment compliance to agency standards
  • Support team to become UL WTDP / DAP (witness test data program / data acceptance program).
  • Collaborate with the team and share ideas on process improvement
  • Ensure that all Kidde test equipment, at all sites, are correlated and produce similar test results.
  • Prioritize continuous improvement initiatives by focusing on the automation of test equipment and improving instrumentation projects processes.

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate degree
  • 1+ years of engineering training/experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Engineering Graphical Packages (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards such as UL268/217/521/2034/EN54 or similar
  • Understands how to read and interpret prints, installation sheets and bill of materials
  • Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills with little to no supervision
  • Interpersonal skills to work with several departments, including engineering and production
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Expert on Microsoft Office (especially Excel and macros in Excel)
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A. without restrictions
  • Able to travel for at least 10% of the time (Domestically or Globally)
