About this role
Reports to the Project Engineering Manager. Responsible for all technical aspects of assigned projects, from receipt of order, creation of design & manufacturing documents & BOMs, final customer checkout, and installation documents for fire suppression projects. Determine the hardware and operational logic requirements of proposed, existing or new projects. Establish engineering schedule and plan work to meet schedule. Prepare, maintain and release documentation for the review, manufacturing, programming and testing of fire suppression, fire and gas detection, and notification systems.
Key Responsibilities
Works closely with Project Management to develop and maintain the assigned project schedule. Plan work to conform to the project schedule. Notify Project Manager and Supervisor if project milestones cannot be met.
Document and resolve technical issues with customer's specification or equipment specified. Assist Project Management on determining the impact of a change in the scope of supply. Determine change order amounts or required schedule modification.
Represent Project Engineering Department at project kickoff and or design review meetings, when required.
Develop and maintain the assigned projects Bill of Material (BOM) using JD Edwards ERP system per procedure. Provide recommended spare parts listings as required by the assigned project.
Develop and maintain the assigned project's configuration documents. Including- Equipment tag list, input/output listing, cause and effects drawings, current and flow calculations.
Develop and maintain the assigned project's mechanical drawings. Including- fire suppression system mechanical skid drawings, isometric piping diagrams, detailed manufacturing & assembly drawings, system wiring drawings, flow & quantity calculations, power distribution drawings, field connection drawings, and all other drawings as required by the specification.
Release project documents above per procedure for purchasing, manufacturing, programming and customer approval.
Responsible for final test and certification of the systems operation. Document hardware, software and factory acceptance testing.
Assist in the start up/commissioning of projects or products as requested by customer or customer service calls as needed.
Proposal assistance: work closely with the Proposals and Sales groups to determine the best product offering on proposed projects. Develop bid documents as required by the data requirements of the specification.
Standard procedures: follow, document, and maintain department procedures to meet the requirements of established standards (ISO, NFPA, NEC, UL, FM, API, ANSI, ISA etc.).
Fire Codes: must be knowledgeable in the relevant fire and life safety codes, (e.g.- NFPA 12, 72, 101, 750, 2001, plus NEC 70, FM Global Data Sheets, OSHA, EN 54 etc.). Implement requirements in assigned project design documents.
Design reviews: review documents of design developed others to determine if the documentation meets the design requirements of established procedures, good design practice and the project/customers specifications.
Determine tasks that can be given to subordinates or other personnel assigned to the project. Delegate such tasks and oversee their execution.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (fire protection/mechanical/electrical)
NICET Level II in Special Hazards and/or Fire Alarm
5+ years' experience in project engineering, preferably with a manufacturer of Fire and Gas Alarm Systems or other Safety Systems manufacturer.
Experience with special hazards fire suppression systems, especially CO2 and water mist, and Fire Alarm Control Panels.
Experience with AutoCAD.
Must have excellent written and verbal skills.
Must be able to follow direction and work closely with other departments and directly with customers to meet project requirements.
Resourcefulness. Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances or constraints.
Demonstrated teamwork skills
Ability to handle multiple priorities with excellent time management skills
Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
Strong troubleshooting, problem solving, and collaboration skills
