As a Hardware Engineer for Automated Logic Corporation, you will report directly to the Hardware Engineering Supervisor and be responsible for developing: equipment level wiring schematics, equipment level point layouts, equipment sequencing, hardware and part selections, networking layout, system integrations, and overall building automation system layouts. The developed submittal package will aide in construction of system programming, graphics, installation, and startup of the overarching system.
The individual should understand hardware components such as controllers, sensors, relays, and valve/actuator sizing while also having a base understanding of software concepts such as PID loops, input/output configurations, and base software design concepts. As a design engineer, you should be able to interpret Mechanical, Electrical, and Architectural construction documents in addition to meeting the specifications defining system layouts and requirements.
This is an individual contributor role that will be responsible for communicating effectively with fellow employees within the engineering department and within other divisions of the ALC Branch. Potential developmental career opportunities include Hardware Supervisor, Senior Hardware Engineer, Lead Controls Engineer, Field Engineer, or Systems Specialist role.
Key Responsibilities
Design of complete building automation systems including the specification and sizing of controllers, electromechanical devices, sensors, networks, and computer hardware.
Creation, where necessary, of sequence of operation for the control of all building systems.
Documentation of BAS design (i.e. submittals) and revision control of the resultant documents.
Final documentation of the building automation system that incorporates all changes made since the issuance of the submittal.
Timely creation of requests for information (RFIs) which are clear, concise, and well written.
Final documentation of the building automation system that incorporates all changes made since the issuance of the submittal.
Clear communication and proactive expectation setting with supervisor and project teams.
Construction Document and Coordination
Comprehend, analyze, and interpret construction plans and specification documents.
Comprehensive knowledge of MEP systems and dynamics
Adherence to project requirements, company standards, and customer standards in all aspects of design, programming, and implementation.
Ensure engineering processes are followed and make suggestions for enhancement.
Ensure all Automated Logic organizational safety and ethics standards are met.
Adherence to safety standards. High regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
Adherence to ethics standards. Exemplifies the Carrier code of ethics.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or High School Diploma and 2+ years of experience in the Building Automation industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, building automation, or related field.
4+ years of related experience in the Building Automation industry.
OR
Associate’s degree in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, building automation, or related field.
8+ years of related experience in the Building Automation industry.
Proficiency in a Windows operating environment, including e-mail and Microsoft Office software.
Previous experience with Microsoft Visio. Special consideration given to individuals with Automated Logic EDS or Automated Logic Eikon / Viewbuilder / Sitebuilder experience.
Able to interpret plans (including architectural, mechanical, and electrical blueprints), specifications, and contract documents to deliver compliant but optimized designs.
Able to accurately and effectively request clarifications to technical or scope information via a formal RFI process.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously under general direction in a highly dynamic, and collaborative environment.
Familiarity with third-party communication protocols used in building automation (e.g. BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, LON, N2, etc.). Able to design integrations with the same.
