This position is for a staff Engineering Services and Support technician who is under moderate supervision. Performs moderately complex technical tasks which contribute to the planning and execution of engineering projects. Confers with engineers on details and implications of test procedures and results. Assists in orienting, training, and assigning work of technical/business support employees.

Key Responsibilities:

The Unit Build Mechanic will provide technical support to the HVAC Commercial Engineering team in Syracuse, NY.  This includes building, brazing, soldiering, modifying, moving, charging, and installing AC/Heating units for test or recycling.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Build, modify, install, HVAC units to be used in psychrometric testing with support from senior mechanics, or decommission units after testing
  • Install thermocouples and other sensors in test units
  • Install units in psychrometric test rooms
  • Coordinate with engineers and lab technicians to change out components on a rooftop HVAC unit
  • Fabricate/modify/install ductwork
  • Tear down old units and sort materials for scrap
  • Work closely with engineering, and product teams to ensure continued product/market fit
  • Able to anticipate and quickly adapt systems and practices to changes in customer requirements
  • Finds the balance between producing high quality products and on-time delivery
  • Ability to recognize and rebalance priorities as needed to keep entire team focused on important, high-value efforts
  • Looks for areas to improve process and capabilities in the lab and follow through to implement those improvements.
  • Assists with and leads the implementation and development of lab objectives and initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years’ experience in a business environment
  • 1+ years’ experience with HVAC
  • 1+ years’ experience with electrical wiring
  • 1+ years’ experience with reading and interpreting technical drawings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Able to install delicate test instrumentation
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Work well as a team and independently.
  • Have a desire to learn and grow in all aspects of mechanic work.
  • A Safety-First mentality and the ability to demonstrate that mentality to others.
  • Follow all EH&S guidelines and suggest improvements, while maintaining a clean work environment.
