The Instructional Designer is responsible for developing technical training on commercial HVAC equipment and controls for Carrier’s internal workforce, customers and external stakeholders.This role partners closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) from engineering, product management, service, and sales to create engaging learning experiences across multiple modalities, including eLearning, virtual instructor-led training (vILT), classroom training, videos, job aids, and performance support tools. The ideal candidate combines strong instructional design, animation and video production skills, experience with technical audiences, and familiarity with HVAC systems and controls.

Role Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs analyses to identify performance gaps, learner characteristics, and business goals for targeted audiences.
  • Translate technical and business requirements into clear learning objectives, structured curricula, and effective assessment plans using adult learning principles and instructional design frameworks (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, EnABLE).
  • Develop technical training and resources on HVAC equipment and controls, including eLearning modules, simulations, lab manuals, job aids, troubleshooting tools, operator guides, quick-start resources, short video tutorials, FAQs, and integrated performance support tools.
  • Build content using authoring tools like Articulate 360, Captivate, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator) or similar, ensuring compatibility with learning platforms.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to guarantee all materials are technically accurate, compliant with standards, and meet organizational quality, branding, and accessibility requirements. Ensure alignment with the new product development process to release training prior to product launch.
  • Assess training effectiveness through evaluations, feedback, observation, and performance data analysis, while supporting course enrollment, virtual facilitation, and issue resolution as a skilled Learning Management System (Totara) user.
  • Monitor trends in learning and development, benchmarking best practices to enhance training programs continuously.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in instructional design for adult learners, including end‑to‑end design and development of learning solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with ANSI/IACET Standard for Continuing Education and Training        
  • BS, MS, or higher degree in instructional design or education    
  • Proven experience in instructional design, particularly in developing technical training materials for HVAC systems. Experience in the commercial HVAC sector is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning platforms
  • Proficiency with instructional design software and tools, such as Articulate 360, Camtasia, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency in multimedia software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator) or similar tools
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and collaboration platforms (SharePoint, Teams, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with subject matter experts and stakeholders at all levels.
