About this role

The Heat Transfer Group in Carrier’s Mechanical Center of Excellence is seeking a motivated, results-oriented and experienced engineer to join our team. As an Engineer in the Heat Transfer Group, you will apply state-of-art design and simulation tools to optimize heat exchanger performance in HVAC&R systems.  You will utilize a variety of heat transfer test facilities to characterize heat exchanger performance and generate fundamental data for the improvement of modeling and design tools.

You will work closely with global product development teams and cross-functional partners to insert new heat transfer technologies into Carrier products. You will leverage expertise in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics, including both single-phase and two-phase flows.  You will grow professionally to become a key contributor to strategic heat transfer technology initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to heat transfer focused projects and assist in heat exchanger technology initiatives.
  • Support benchmarking, development, validation, and implementation of advanced heat exchanger technologies.
  • Evaluate heat exchanger designs and heat transfer surface concepts using analytical and experimental methods.
  • Utilize experimental test facilities; develop test methodologies; plan and supervise experiments; ensure quality data acquisition; and perform relevant data reduction.
  • Assist in developing state-of-art design and simulation tools; plan and conduct experiments for calibration and validation of modeling tools.
  • Provide support to product engineering teams to ensure proper application of new heat transfer technologies throughout the product development cycle.
  • Generate written technical reports and standard work instructions.
  • Conduct presentations for engineering and business personnel.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • 1+ year of engineering internship experience in addition to 1+ year of professional engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications (nice to have)

Other qualifications you may have that would be beneficial in this role include:

  • Master's or Ph.D Degree in Engineering.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics as well as heat transfer and heat exchanger design
  • Knowledge of two-phase flow phenomena (liquid-gas), heat transfer, and hydraulic resistance concepts.
  • Experience in mechanical and thermal design using numerical and analytical models; CFD/FEA familiarity is a plus.
  • Experience in computer programming languages; EES and MatLab.
  • Good communication and organization skills
  • Ability to manage critical tasks and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to creatively overcome obstacles to achieve project objectives.
