Job Summary

Carrier is seeking a Senior Engineer, Mechanical Engineering to support its portfolio of commercial water‑cooled chillers, including centrifugal and screw compressor platforms. This role is responsible for sustaining engineering activities across the product lifecycle, with a strong focus on field reliability, regulatory compliance, manufacturing support, and continuous improvement of existing chiller products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical authority for assigned water‑cooled chiller platforms, including centrifugal and/or screw compressor systems.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions (RCCA, 8D) for field failures, warranty issues, and reliability concerns.
  • Drive engineering changes to improve reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and lifecycle performance.
  • Support production by being a part of the solution resolving manufacturing issues, nonconformances, and supplier-related quality concerns.
  • Engineer, Review and approve Engineering Change Requests (ECR/ECOs), deviations, concessions, and obsolescence-driven redesigns.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including ASME pressure vessel requirements, UL, and AHRI refrigerant regulations.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Controls Engineering, Service, and Regulatory teams.
  • Analyze warranty and field performance data to identify systemic issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Support customer-facing technical escalations and field investigations as required.
  • Manage elements of product development activities including cost estimates, implementation of standard specifications, drawing board layout and interpretation, and development of performance or maintenance requirements.
  • Execute test and qualification for systems, sub-systems, and components. Review test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and modify or adjust equipment to meet specifications.
  • Enhance commonality and optimization of product & components.
  • Test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess operating condition effects and necessity of modification.
  • Produce parts, specifications, designs, or sketches for machines, components, systems, or work orders / purchase requests.
  • Work with quality clinic and related departments to support the test and verification of field issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in sustaining, product support, or manufacturing engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience leading structured problem-solving and corrective action efforts.
  • 2+ years of experience interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and managing design changes.
  • 1+ years of experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, and reliability engineering methods.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 5%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with commercial HVAC equipment, preferably water‑cooled chillers.
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, thermodynamics, heat exchangers, and compressor systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Direct experience with centrifugal or screw water‑cooled chiller platforms.
  • Knowledge of ASME pressure vessel design and AHRI performance standards.
  • Mechanically inclined.
