About this role
This role is responsible for driving product and process quality across an air-cooled chiller value stream. This role ensures that manufacturing processes are capable, stable, and compliant with internal and external standards. The engineer partners closely with manufacturing, industrial engineering, and supply chain teams to identify risks, eliminate defects, and build sustainable quality systems.
- Regular Shift: Monday – Friday, 2:30 PM – 10:30 PM (2nd Shift).
- Training Period: New hires will train on 1st shift (6:00 AM – 3:00 PM) for approximately the first 4–6 weeks. Normal 2nd shift hours will begin immediately after training is complete.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own quality performance for assigned assembly lines or value stream
- Establish and maintain process controls to ensure consistent product quality
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for internal and external defects (e.g., 8D, A3)
- Validate effectiveness of corrective actions and ensure sustainment
- Analyze defect trends, scrap, rework, and warranty data to identify systemic issues
- Lead cross-functional teams to eliminate chronic quality problems
- Drive error-proofing (poka-yoke) and process capability improvements
- Reduce cost of poor quality (COPQ) through structured improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001)
- Support internal and external audits, close gaps with urgency and discipline
- Maintain and improve control plans, PFMEAs, and standard work documentation
- Ensure traceability and documentation integrity across production processes
- Partner with supplier quality to address incoming material issues impacting production
- Support supplier corrective actions and containment activities
- Define and improve incoming inspection strategies based on risk
- Support new product introduction (NPI), engineering changes, and process changes
- Participate in process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) and first article inspections
- Ensure robust quality readiness prior to production ramp-up
- Maintain a strong daily presence on the production floor
- Identify quality risks in real time and drive immediate containment
- Coach operators and technicians on quality standards and defect recognition
- Ensure quality concerns are clearly communicated in daily tier meetings
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or technology.
- 2+ years of experience in manufacturing or quality engineering role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong problem-solving capability using structured methodologies (8D, A3, DMAIC)
- Working knowledge of quality tools (PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA)
- Ability to work cross-functionally and influence without direct authority
- Exposure to Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing principles.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent
- Familiarity with brazing, leak testing, electrical systems, and final test processes
- Experience with MES systems and digital quality tracking
