About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Model Maker to support HVAC engineering development through the fabrication, modification, and testing of prototype equipment. This position plays a critical role in bringing new product designs to life by building and refining prototype HVAC units in collaboration with engineering teams.
This role is 100% onsite in Indianapolis, IN
Key Responsibilities
Fabricate HVAC prototypes, tooling, and test fixtures to support engineering development projects
Read and interpret work orders, engineering drawings, and technical documentation
Perform fabrication processes including:
Brazing (copper and aluminum)
Welding
Bending and stamping
General sheet metal fabrication
Modify HVAC units based on engineering direction and specifications
Charge and discharge refrigerant from HVAC systems
Install instrumentation components such as thermocouples, pressure taps, and sensors
Program and operate automated equipment including:
3D printers
Water jet cutters
Brake presses
Collaborate with engineers to clarify requirements, troubleshoot issues, and complete builds
Maintain a safe and organized work environment in compliance with EH&S policies
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of 2 years of experience in one of the following
HVAC Technology
Mechanical Engineering Technology
Industrial Maintenance
Building Automation / Controls
Electrical or Electromechanical Technology
Preferred Qualifications
EPA Certification
Working knowledge of residential HVAC systems (air conditioners, heat pumps, air handlers, gas furnaces)
Experience fabricating sheet metal components
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
Experience brazing similar and dissimilar materials (copper and aluminum)
Experience with machine shop and fabrication equipment (press brake, shear, punch, welder, band saw, etc.)
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook; comfortable with digital communication tools
Experience with or ability to learn CAD/CAM software
Electrical aptitude, including ability to read wiring diagrams and use testing tools (e.g., volt/ohm meter)
Experience with:
Industrial 3D printing
CNC or automated fabrication equipment (water jet, turret press, tube bending, etc.)
Conventional and/or CNC machining
Additional Requirements
Ability to lift and move up to 35 lbs without assistance
Ability to work first shift (Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week)
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Ability to work effectively in a team and matrixed environment
Self-motivated with the ability to learn quickly and take initiative
Ability to understand and follow EH&S and ethics policies
