About This Role
The individual would have responsibility for the preparation, execution and quantification of a wide variety of laboratory tests, including testing of corrosion resistance and durability of metals and coatings, as well as failure analysis of units from the field. Samples will need to be prepped, tested/analyzed, and organized; ensuring proper maintenance of equipment and accuracy of records will be critical. Individual will assist in implementation of new procedures and controls to increase or improve capability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with engineers and internal customers on sample preparation and analysis.
- Maintain detailed records of testing conducted with measurements of unit under test, test conditions (where applicable), and other pertinent pieces of non-standard data.
- Performs minimal computations or analysis to ensure data integrity.
- Organize test documents and provide summarized reports to engineers or internal customers.
- Serves as the technical specialist for the organization in the use of or theory of operation of a piece or pieces of equipment.
- Takes ownership of their equipment, including maintenance, standard works, and training
- Assist in continuous improvement efforts to increase test reliability and acceleration.
- Able to communicate broadly on complex topics with proper level and type details. Can presents to their department Engineers, demonstrating skills in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues.
- Maintain a safe working environment, following all procedures and PPE requirements.
- Must demonstrate the ability to self-motivate & work with minimal direct supervision; is expected to receive general direction on key tasks and develop/implement action-plan independently.
- Must maintain an acceptable attendance, performance and discipline record.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- 5+ years of technician experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school chemistry is strongly preferred, and post-secondary chemistry courses would be ideal. Must be knowledgeable and comfortable in mixing chemicals.
- Understanding and basic experience with metallurgical sample preparation and microscopy would be significant benefit.
- Basic electrical knowledge and familiarity with brazing would be beneficial, including Refrigeration Certificate in 40CFR part82, subpart F- Type I & II minimum (Universal preferred).
- Understanding of how a residential HVAC system (Furnace, Fancoil, Furnace Coil, Heat Pump, AC Condensing Unit) functions would be beneficial.
