External Description:
About the role
We are seeking a talented, highly motivated, and results-driven Controls Engineer with expertise in control systems specification, design, architecture, programming, and verification. This role focuses on delivering innovative and robust control solutions across a broad range of HVAC and refrigeration systems.
The Controls Engineer will work with global, cross-disciplinary teams to design, develop, test, troubleshoot, and support control systems throughout the full lifecycle—from conceptual design and model-based development to lab validation and field trial support. This position offers the opportunity to engage with multiple business units and contribute to a diverse product portfolio.
If you are passionate about developing high-quality control systems, enjoy working in collaborative environments, and are driven to deliver solutions that enhance customer experience, we would love to hear from you.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Develop control solutions for HVAC and refrigeration system, ensuring alignment with customer and technical requirements, industry standards, and best practices.
- Support system-level requirement definition and low-level control requirements decomposition.
- Perform dynamic analysis of non-linear systems in development of control algorithms including system identification, controllability, robustness, stability, and optimization
- Develop and execute unit tests and integration tests for control systems to ensure functionality and performance.
- Participate in hands-on testing in the psychrometric laboratory, analyzing results to guide refinements in plant model fidelity and control algorithms.
- Apply best-in-class strategies to push testing further upstream in the development lifecycle (MIL/SIL/HIL)
- Support the development and calibration of physics-based plant models.
- Contribute to project execution by supporting the setting of clear technical goals, managing timelines, and collaborating with teams to ensure timely and quality delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, or Control Systems, or Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering with 3+ years of controls system experience, OR M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical, Control Systems, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of controls engineering foundations, including feedback control, linear/nonlinear control, multivariable control, system identification, and optimization.
- Experience in the use of Matlab-based toolsets to design, implement, and test embedded controls algorithms.
- Experience with industrial control applications.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with cross-functional teams and external customers.
- Expertise in heat transfer, two-phase flow, and thermodynamic cycle analytical skills.
- Experience with vapor-compression cycles, including heat exchangers and turbomachinery compression technologies.
- Experience in requirements management and system integration, specifically test strategies across model-in-the-loop (MIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) domains.
