Staff Engineer, Sustaining Controls

External Description:

Key Responsibilities:

• Owns sustaining engineering for product control systems, logic and embedded configurations.
• Investigates and resolves field and production controls issues through root-cause analysis.
• Develops and validates control-software updates, parameter settings and diagnostics.
• Leads cost-reduction, component-obsolescence and design-improvement projects for controls.
• Supports production line troubleshooting, test-stand development and validation.
• Maintains controls documentation, schematics, and change control (ECN/ECO).
• Partners with suppliers on controls components and qualification.
• Provides technical guidance to technicians and less-experienced engineers.
• Travel up to 10%.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Systems Engineering
• 7+ years of controls engineering experience in a product or manufacturing environment.
• 2+ years of experience with control systems, embedded logic, sensors and actuators.

Preferred Qualifications:

• HVAC/refrigeration controls experience (chillers, rooftops, compressors).
• Experience with communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, CAN).
• Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control specifications.
• Experience with root-cause analysis, design validation and change control.
• Working knowledge of product safety and agency standards (UL, CSA or equivalent).
• Proven ability to resolve complex technical problems with limited supervision.
