We are seeking an innovative, data driven, results-oriented team member to contribute to our continued legacy of innovation and success, located at the Residential Product Design Headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The ideal candidate will work in a team environment with minimal direction and lead the activities associated with data acquisition and automation in the test labs. Candidate will design and implement PLC systems along with the required programing to automate tests and data acquisition. In addition, the candidate will have a strong background in both high and low voltage circuits enabling them to design and troubleshoot power requirements associated to our products and test setups. The candidate will work with product development engineers and test lab technicians to support the engineering test systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot controls and test equipment as it pertains to daily testing in the lab.
- Guide labs with the help of contract electricians on high and low voltage requirements.
- Assist with the design of data acquisition systems.
- Document and update lab testing equipment electrical and control schematics.
- Upgrade and improve lab automation to improve throughput efficiency.
- Support the proper functioning and development of the Engineering Labs and other equipment as needed.
- Plan and schedule resources as needed to facilitate development teams testing schedules.
- This person will need to be dynamic, outgoing, and self-motivated for this role.
- Must be able to work with minimal direct guidance or direction from others.
- Ability to specify, design, program, troubleshoot operate, service and maintain PLC and HMI devices/systems (Siemens TIA Portal preferred) and data acquisition systems.
- Wiring controllers and documenting programs designed for the equipment.
- Write and develop drivers.
- Plan projects using Microsoft Project ensuring proper resources available.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering discipline.
- BA/BS degree with 4+ years of relative experience in a controls environment and/or PLC development, OR a MA/MS degree with 2+ years of relative experience in a controls environment and/or PLC development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Siemens TIA Portal Software
- Experience in control systems, ladder logic software, calibration processes and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems and LabView
- Knowledge of VFDs and VFD feedback loops for process control
- Understanding of PID Loop Optimization
- Experience with RS232/RS485, Modbus, Profibus and TCP/IP communications.
- NFPA70E Arc flash knowledge
- Understanding of safety controls
- Intermediate AutoCAD skills
- Strong computer skills required, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project and MS SQL.
- Demonstrates ability to foster positive relationships with employees, peers, and management
- Critical thinking, problem-solving skills to resolve operational issues related to automation.
- Experience with various sensors and measurement devices
- Proficient mechanical ability to compliment electrical skills
- Knowledge of HVAC is preferred.
- Excellent critical thinking, technical writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to deal with multiple issues, task, and priorities concurrently.
- Ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization and multiple disciplines.
- Responds quickly to emergency situations and summoning additional assistance as needed.
- Interacts with customers in a courteous manner and assists where/when appropriate in solving operational issues.
- Ability to meet project timelines on varying deliverables.
- Experience working in a team environment.
