About this role:
Carrier has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Systems Engineer to join its Carrier Controls, Connectivity and Electrical Engineering team located in Syracuse, NY. We are providing game changing solutions to make Carrier’s truck trailer and container transportation refrigeration units sustainable, smarter, and connected. We design, develop, and qualify electrical systems of transport refrigeration products which include connected power conversion, electronic microcontroller systems, and connectivity devices. We are continuously adopting new development technologies and capabilities to deliver advanced solutions for a safe and sustainable cold chain.
The Electrical Systems Engineer will be an experienced technical contributor creating efficient, high quality, and reliable intelligent electrical and electronic systems as part of our engineering teams. The position is focused on specification, design, analysis and qualification of power supply, smart batteries, energy recovery and power conversion systems which include electronic controls and connectivity systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work in a team defining and representing the structure of electrical systems, power generation, storage, and conversion components
- Help defining and documenting the interface between electrical system, controls, and mechanical and structural components and the external environment, including power interfaces and signal I/O
- Work in lab environment on integration of electrical & electronic systems for transportation refrigeration including batteries, power generators and power conversion modules interfacing with the electrical grid
- Specify requirements for power conversion and electronic controls and interface with suppliers to ensure components meet system requirements
- Use modeling and design tools, perform analytical calculations, verify, and test on lab prototypes and proof of concepts
- Troubleshoot problems on existing products, engage in root cause analysis activities
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in electro-mechanical design and electrical systems specification and qualification
- 2+ years of experience Ability to reading and modifying electric schematics, writing electrical systems requirements
- 2+ years of experience with the specification and qualification of electrically powered products
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of electrical analysis, electrical protection, and power consumption
- Experience with wiring, connectors, harnessing
- Experience with power supplies, batteries, power converters
- Familiarity with HVAC&R equipment and systems or electrification products
- Proficient in modern experimental and modeling/simulation methods, instrumentation, and measurement systems
- Comfortable with both collaborative and independent work in a global team setting
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to collaborate in a global and diverse team environment
- Possess strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Proactive with learning new tools, methods and technologies
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- A proactive individual with demonstrated capability to innovate, propose new ideas, lead by example, show curiosity, and question the status quo
- M. Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems with 1-2 years of industrial experience (includes internships/co-op experiences)
- Minimal Travel to customer sites, field locations and other Carrier sites
