About this role:
Carrier has an exciting opportunity for a Staff Electrical/Electronic Systems Engineer to join its Carrier Transicold Controls, Connectivity & Electrical Engineering team located in Syracuse, NY. Our team is providing game changing solutions to make Carrier’s truck trailer and container transportation refrigeration units sustainable, smarter, and connected. Our products are undergoing a radical transformation into fully electric, intelligent refrigeration systems that are more efficient and reliable. We design, develop, and support electrical systems including the specification of intelligent, connected power conversion, electronic microcontroller systems, and connectivity devices. We are continuously adopting new development technologies and capabilities to deliver advanced solutions for a safe and sustainable cold chain.
The Staff Electrical/Electronic Systems Engineer will be a technical leader as part of our team to create efficient, high quality, and reliable intelligent electrical and electronic systems for Carrier transportation refrigeration units. The position is focused on design and qualification of power supply, power conversion as well as specification and qualification of electronic controls and connectivity systems.
Key Responsibilities:
The position requires onsite presence because of the need to use lab equipment and tool
Work in a team leading the definition and qualification of electronic controls and electrical systems, power generation and conversion components, connectivity devices and their relationships
Help defining and documenting the interface between electronic controls and electrical system as well as with mechanical and structural components and the external environment, including power interfaces and signal I/O
Identify and evaluate business requirements (performance, reliability and cost) and transform into engineering requirements
Support the development of control platform roadmaps to ensure commonality across product lines.
Work on integration of electrical & electronic systems for transportation refrigeration including batteries, power generators and power conversion modules interfacing with the electrical grid
Specify requirements for power conversion and electronic controls and interface with suppliers to ensure components meet system requirements
Use modeling and design tools, perform analytical calculations, verify, and test on lab prototypes and proof of concepts
Troubleshoot problems on existing products, engage in root cause analysis activities
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of relevant experience as electrical/electronic systems engineer
Bachelors Degree
Preferred Qualifications:
Leadership in electro-mechanical design and electronic systems specification and qualification
Development and ownership of electric schematics, write electrical systems requirements
Experience with leading the specification and qualification for production of hardware requirements of control and connectivity/IoT devices (I/O, computation, and communication)
Understanding of electrical analysis, electrical protection power consumption
Experience with wiring, connectors, harnessing
Comfortable with both collaborative and independent work in a global team setting
Experience with power supplies, batteries, power converters
Familiarity with HVAC&R equipment and systems
Experience in new product design and qualification, design failure mode analysis
Proficient in modern experimental and modeling/simulation methods, instrumentation, and measurement systems
Ability to lead projects coordinating a team of engineers
Ability to collaborate in a global team environment
Possess analytical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Ability to learn new tools, methods and technologies as requirements evolve
Strong communication and organizational skills
Self-directed, highly motivated, ability to influence and lead teams
A proactive individual with demonstrated capability to innovate, propose new ideas, lead by example, show curiosity, and question the status quo
Minimal Travel to customer sites, field locations and other Carrier sites
