About this role

Carrier Corporation’s Air Management Systems group in Syracuse, NY, is seeking a qualified student candidate for a part-time position during the fall semester in 2023 (approximately 10 hours per week). The AMS group develops advanced, highly efficient fan technologies for HVAC applications. This Co-op offers an opportunity to work and learn alongside practicing engineers and to assist in projects that will directly affect products under development and deployed in the field. Students will gain experience in experimental laboratory work, including wind tunnel and acoustic testing, applied to a variety of practical engineering problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with other members of the AMS team to assist with the design and development of fan technologies using computational- and laboratory-based methods.
  • Develop practical engineering skills while seeing a primary project to completion.
  • Summarize progress and findings in weekly meetings and in a final report to management.

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Preference is being given to the candidate from Syracuse University. This internship is a partnership between Syracuse University and their career center.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework:
    • Introductory fluid mechanics
    • Aerodynamics
    • Turbomachinery design
  • Familiarity with the following software:
    • Computer-aided design (CAD), such as SolidWorks, SpaceClaim, Creo
    • MATLAB
    • Python
    • LabVIEW
  • Strong interest in the design and development of rotating machinery
  • Self-motivated individuals with some background in fluid mechanics
  • Previous research experience in a laboratory environment
  • Good communication and organizational skills
